    Cool Space as needed

In the games I have played so far, there has never been a really defined common sized space. I use whatever is available at the time.
In games against my son we have used the dining room table and the living room floor. Against Jeff, a friend of mine in Paducah, we have used his bar in the kitchen, approx 2ftx4ft. In Clarksville we had a table approx 4ftx8ft.

I used to use the 3x5 kitchen table, but have now gone to a 52x52 inch table. I much prefer the sqaure playing area over the rectangular.

So about 5 or 6 months ago, I said to my wife, "You know, we really need a new, larger kitchen table for the family at dinner time." She said, "Really...I've been wanting that for some time now. When can we go looking!?!"

So when we did go looking, and I didn't let on to her this then, but she was looking for a new family kitchen dinner table, and I was looking for a new WoW table!

Turned out to be a win-win for both of us!

I only get to play at the game store and they have 4x6 tables. I do have a 52"x52" table at the house, but it belongs to the wife's scrapbooking hobby I think I would prefer the square table format as well.

The reason why Nexus choosed a smaller card size than poker or Magic is to allow gaming on small tables - the spaces that can be usually found in a normal flat. I usually play in 4 on 3' x 3', or even in 2' 4" x 2' 4" (70 cm) if I am in a pub or with a small table anyway.

Yes, and part of the penalty will be...ah...hmm...confinement... with, ah...let's see here...um, model making people...to... ah... yeah, um... make many more miniatures!

    Yeah, that's the ticket!

He'll have to do nothing but direct the production of more miniatures until such a time as he can be declared fit for a return to society!

(or until there are no more miniatures to be made, whichever comes first; as long as all the miniatures are done)!

4'x6' is what I am used to playing on. So I'll just keep on using the same size table.

and playing WoW at a pub sounds like a great idea.

mmmm or maybe playing out in the man shed with a few cold ones...

I like to play on a 6'x4' but space at the moment restricts us to half of it at 3'x4' and if we are short on time then its straight on the dining table which is hexagon shaped with 2' sides and is brilliant for 3 and 6 player games

Do you guys use a mat to play on or just straight on the table? We play with the cards so far, and they tend to slide around a little on the table - was wondering if a green or blue cloth would be a better surface to play on.

We were doing this, but then one of the players scored the two WoW mats on sale at a game shop that was going out of business, so now we use them.

When we play at my house, in the War Room, we use a 6' x 8' table.

We use big coloured felt cloths for our table top covers. Although we have'nt gone into making any scenic table cloths yet, we're still looking at the possibility in the future.

As for colours, we used to change them depending on which campaine mission we were playing. We used Green for over land, dark blue for over the see and light blue for high in the sky. Not very original I know, but thats the only colours we have available to hand.............hence the idea of making a fixed battle field covering.

Whatever table, bench, floor, other surface or subsection thereof is handy or deemed 'the right size' for a given game. generally about 4'x4'. larger with more planes, or a bombing mission, smaller for a 1 on 1 duel. usually use Markosharks pool table.

My local store has a 4' x 6' table. The other place I play is just shy of 2' x 6'.

The beauty of the game is that it works great in both settings.

I made my own play mat, based on one I saw at a convention. I went to the fabric store and bought the largest piece of tan wrinkle-free fabric I could find on sale.

As a result, my play mat covers and area almost as big as two standard 8 foot folding tables- it is abotu 4 feet wide and about 7.25 feet long.

Usually on the table which is 3' by 5' but when it is free on the war games table which is 5' by 6'. I had to cut it down from 6' by 8' when we moved house. Bad planning or what!

One of the things that drew me in to Wings of War was a smaller playing area. I live in an apartment, so even 4x6 can be a stretch at times.

I've got a couple of the mats, though. I usually play on one, because most of the games I have played to this point have been fairly small.

  43. #43

Definitely, the bigger the better. I try to allocate 4 sq/ft per player with either 2 single-seaters or one twin-seater per player. So a 6'x4' table will accommodate 6 players and up to a dozen aircraft.

I don't necessarily play on a standard table size. It varies per amount of players/planes. That's one thing that I like about this game. YOu don't really need a "standard size" table if oyu don't have one or a table at all for that matter, just mark out a section of floor. That's what attracted me to the game initially the quick setup and play time. Even with all the optional rules it still goes quick playing a 2v2 or 3v3.

  45. #45

The size of table is determined by the game the last WW1 we used the standard game mat x 2 (4 sheets) but for WW2 we used 3 No 6’x4’ one for each carrier and one for CAP this made movement easy and allowed the use of some large carrier printouts (4’x10’’) so the gunners could be effective, but the Jap pilots just crashed on the decks and avoided the flight back to rearm nothing new there but it was a good afternoons excitement.

I received one of the playing mats for Christmas and just picked up the other one to complete the set. Sadly, my basement table (our official gaming table) was almost exactly the right length, but was about 10 cm too narrow. My solution? I went out to Home Depot and had them custom cut a piece of pre-sanded plywood to my exact specifications, which just happen to be the exact dimensions of the two playing mats together. I might have gone a little bigger, but it just so happened that even a couple of centimeters in any direction and it wouldn't have fit in the back of my car. The plywood is heavy enough that it doesn't shift or move, so it works like a charm.

I must say that the playing mats really raise the feel of the game to new level for us. The game was always fun to play, but now it just looks awesome! And I find that they work really well with the miniatures because the miniatures are heavy enough to have some grip, but the cards slide nicely (making it easy to slip the maneuver cards out from under the miniatures).
