Adolf Galland - The Authorised Biography

    Autobiography
    Format:
    Hardback
    Summary:
    308 Pages

Very well written and engaging, as well as being a biography of a very influential part of the Luftwaffe it's a facinating insight into the workings of that organisation during WWII. The meat of the book covers his career 1939-45 when he rose up to become General of Fighters and gain the highest honours the Reich had to bestow. Whilst I was skepical at times about his involvement in the Nazi regime and his knowledge of the crimes commited he was cleared on any involvement after the war, indeed he wasn't even charged with anything. His skills and abilities as a pilot and student of all things aerial are truly titanic. Well recommended.

It would also worth reading his own biography The First and the Last and comparing the two.

I read a chapter about him today in a book about german fighter aces in ww2. That period was pretty much a blind spot for me, at least compared to ww1. it did really impress me what I've read about him so far. And i think he definitely deserves some closer research!

This is mentioned in the book actually, iirc it was written early '50s and was more sensational/sanitised for post war europe. He was a remarkable man who, I beleive, could have won the air war for Germany if allowed to get on with it. Ultimately the millstone of Georing proved too heavy though.
