On behalf of the Squadrons based here over the pond in Dear old Blighty, may I welcome you to the Drome Max.
With John watching your six you are in good hands.
See you in the Officers Club (The Mess) for a few virtual beers and a chinwag once you are settled in.

    Hey Guys,

Ryan and I will miss this evening, we'll try for next month.

    Have fun!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes fellas; I appreciate it!

Sorry I'm missing tonight's action; but I'll definitely do my best to make it to February's Furball!

Question: Do you bring your own planes and decks? Also.....did anything change rules wise from Wings of War vs. Wings of Glory? I don't have any Wings of Glory stuff yet; but I've got two of the Boxed sets from Wings of War (Famous Aces and Watch your Back) and about 10 or so miniatures. I'm happy to play Allies or Central or bring both....or just play with whatever is there. Looking forward to it....even though as a relatively newbie; I'm sure I'll be easy pickings for you veteran aces out there!

BTW, it is extremely unlikely that I will ever make it to one of these nights; I have an 0530 wake-up, due to mundane job.

I'm usually awake at 0430 (sometimes earlier), but I only live 10 minutes from the game store, so I can still get a decent amount of sleep.

Oh, yes, I also have no independent transportation. Remember, sleep is for wimps.

    Canvas Eagles canceled.

Sorry for the cross post, but for those playing Canvas Eagles at Savage Mill, it is no more. Here is what I got in an email from the guy running it:

"Unfortunately my schedule has changed and I am no longer free on any Monday of the month. I really enjoyed playing the game with you and the rest of the guys. If my schedule changes, I definitely want to start up again and I will contact the game store any post any new information."

Just trying to pass the word so you don't drive out in vain.

See you all at the next WoW instead… (where I hope my luck will improve over last time)

The last game was pretty decent with a turnout of 7, and I believe we got three games in. Already only a week and a half till the next game:

    Monday, February 9th @ 6:00

    Scenario requests?

A dogfight with only unofficial planes.
A bomber mission with two targets, one 1/3 the way onto the board, the other 2/3 of the way.
A competition to see who can destroy the most ground targets? (We place a bunch at random, and all start from the same edge, with whichever plane we want to use. Person with the highest tally when the last ground target is destroyed is "winner.")
If I painted my Kettering Bugs, we could do something similar with those.
Kill the Ace. One side secretly selects one of their pilots to be a super ace, with lots (or all!) of the ace abilities. The other side has to shoot him down.
    Italians vs Austro-Hungarians.
    Seaplanes vs flying boats.
    The Infamous Broken Tank scenario.

Might be difficult; personally, as of the last release I no longer have any unofficial scouts.

I need more details on how this one would work.

So, like 2 months ago, but without the defending planes?

    This sounds exciting!

Could be fun. What would the sides be for this?

I think I can make the gathering on Monday; but nobody answered my earlier questions....do I need to bring my own planes and decks? (I have about 6 or 7 minis: A Spad XIII; an Albatros; a Camel; a DR I; a Nieuport and two two-seaters: an Airco. and a Rumpler)

Looking forward to being easy pickings for you veteran aces out there!

    Max,

no need to bring anything (we usually end up with plenty of planes between what the various players bring), but you can bring your own planes and decks if you want to. See you Monday!

You absolutely do not need to bring your own stuff! If you have any custom planes we'd definitely love to see them, and if you just have a favorite we'll try to work it in.

I have a number of unofficial planes, including a number of Austrian flying boats, a Junkers D.I, an Alb. D.I, a Bristol Scout, Sopwith Pup, a 1 1/2 strutter, a Phoenix D.II. We could put together the kind of potpourri scenario that makes Pseudotheist shake his head

Oooo. I also have Bristol scout. We could say your machine gun is left mounted & mine right. Then try to get pilots to fly between us!

That's great! I actually have a base with a left mounted machine gun, so that would work perfectly.

I won't get my Dolphin finished by then, so the only unofficial plane I have is the B.E. 2c. Fun? Maybe I'll borrow something.

  20. #1020

So, did we settle on anything? I finished my Halberstadt D.II; does that count as "unofficial"?

  21. #1021

I don't believe we have, though there does seem to be an interest in an unofficial planes fight.

Looking forward to tonight.....it'll be my first games in at least 3 years; so I'll definitely be rusty! Also; I'll probably have to leave around 7 to 7:15 ish.....sorry...family stuff; but I'll be there before 6!

I'm just about finished painting up those Kettering Bugs, if there is any interest in an alternate history late-war bug hunt.

I would love to, and have six D.VIIs that we could use. But I will likely not be able to make it for the first game, so hopefully the Kettering Bugs can be the second scenario!

Scenario ideas? Do we want to do the bugs? If so, Todd, what is the width of that "very nice mat"? I'm curious as to how many turns it would take for slow moving bugs to cross it.

Also, I think we need to do some Eastern Front. I'm painting some Vickers FB.19s, which were used briefly in Macedonia (which I guess is technically not the Eastern Front, per se).

    I thought the mat was 4' x 6'. I could be wrong.

  34. #1034

Thinking about it, it's just about two folding tables wide, so that's about 60". I'll do calculations based on that.

Also, I just ordered some Imperial Russian roundels. I doubt they will arrive in time, but if they do I could have two N.17s for the Eastern Front.

  35. #1035

    Default

I'd like to see the bugs

  36. #1036

I too would like to see the bugs!

I have a number of Soviet and Polish planes if you want to do 1919 scenarios. I also have a Russian F.40 if we want to do WWI. More importantly, I have a number of Austrians to go against the Russians!

  37. #1037

    Default

I don't think I'll have Russians ready by then, but we could do Austrians versus 17 Squadron circa 1917.
Of course, that assumes I finish the FB.19s in time. My plan is too concentrate on basing the Bugs, and then finishing the FB.19s.

  38. #1038

According to wiki No 17 Squadron was "sent to Salonika [July 1916] as a mixed unit of twelve BE2cs for reconnaissance and a scout component of two DH2s and three Bristol Scouts." At some point they seem to have been sent the FB.19s. If we wanted to do something with British vs A-H, we could do a clunker recon mission with BE2cs escorted by FB.19s and DH2s.

Hi, I will be there, but won't leave DC until 5pm, so I expect to be there around 6:30 or so. I am bringing a Lloyd C.V and a Phoenix C.I (plus some Alb D.IIIs and flying boats) for the Saloniki/Macedonia scenario.

Cool. See you in a bit. I'm doing last minute prep, but I should be there in time.

Max, sorry you can't make it. Maybe next time.

  43. #1043

Three weeks to go. If we want to do the Vickers FB19s in Macedonia that's cool. Also, I have finally finished (after, oh... 2 years on the workbench?) my two Gotha Ursinus G.1s. With Anthony's making three, we could do an interesting 1915 scenario.

Also, a head's up. While visiting my dad in Dundalk yesterday, I stopped in at the game store. The guy had three or four Wings of War two-seaters. I bought a WoW Roland C.II. The rest were DH4s, as I recall.

According to my facebook invite there will be at least five people there, maybe eight, possibly more.

There will be flying, and flying boats! According to the post office tracking page, my Series 8 planes are "Out for delivery"!
Of course, we don't really have to use them. I'm perfectly fine with doing Bloody April as planned.
