Ooops!
In that case, I doubt we will have enough flying boats.

Good times.
Okay, next month lets do flying boats.
Todd and I were trying to figure out how long this has been running. I think you guys started a month or two before I was able to make it, but here is my first Family Game Store AAR. Assuming I missed the first month, we are coming up on our fourth anniversary in October.
That will be roughly 140 hours worth of WoW/G!
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...ties-of-Nov-14
Since this is the thread for setting it all up, I went to the first page and found Todd's original posts. The first game was June 27, 2011, so we just missed the 4 year anniversary.
Wow, that long. And I missed more games than I recalled.
Uhoh. I didn't realize until yesterday that my eldest son's birthday is next Monday.
So, I'll see you all in September.
I also will not be able to make it--work once again interfering with my leisure...
Well then...Who IS coming, and what do we want to do?
I will be there. If it's a small gathering, dogfights are fine. Bombers or balloons always make things interesting. I'm up for anything.
Something has come up at work & I can't make it. Have fun & see you next month
As expected, small turnout last week, but we still got a game in.
Next meeting: Monday, September 14th @ 6:00
I should be able to make it. Crossing my fingers and hoping nothing gets in the way.
Monday the 14th?!?!
That's tomorrow!
Time flies.
Everything is looking good for me to be there tonight. Looking forward to my first game.

I should be able to make it but I might be a little late
Anyone is the mood for SE5s versus D.VIIs?
Sounds fun!
I'm here... Not sure what planes were in the crate I grabbed. I suspect a very random selection of this, that and the other.
How many people do you guys pull in a typical session?
As few as six, as many as twelve or thirteen.
I think the average number is about eight.
I'm 25 miles each way, so it's a bit of a trip to make it up there on a weekday evening.
I play occasionally with a student group south of Annapolis and we've pulled as many as 22. No altitude rules. But that only happens a couple of times a year.
There's a new game store opening down my way so I may see if I can gin up a game there come October or November. The game can be a blast with a dozen or more players, so I'm hoping to bring some people in. There's a general gaming Meetup group in Annapolis with a bunch of members that I may be able to draw from, and I'll let you guys know of course.
S.
Well, 25 miles can mean anything from a 25 minute to a 3 hour drive in the D.C. area depending on where you are coming from, so I can certainly understand that. That being said, I played my first games of WoG last night with this group and I have to say they are a wonderful group to hang out with. They were generous with their knowledge and their planes (I haven't bought stuff quite yet, though I plan on having some stuff before next month rolls around). So if you can find anyway to make the trip, I strongly recommend it.

The most I've ever played against in a casual setting was 14.
Fwiw, Google maps thinks the average travel time would be 29 minutes. So, hopefully you can give it a try sometime.
Bill, thanks for coming out. Hopefully we'll see you again next month.
Thanks for the word -- good to hear it's a good crowd!
In theory I'm 32 minutes door to door, but it usually ends up at around 40 each way. I used to make the trip for Pokemon on Saturday mornings. It isn't awful, but with four kids Monday nights are tough. I'll work something out and get up that way this Fall for a session.
Four kids... have three myself, so I understand quite well.. This game session is my night off for the month... it also helps that I work near by.

Rarely, but sometimes. Using altitude seems to soak up more time, which means fewer games in the course of an evening. Usually we get in three games, with altitude we get in less.
We also use the new Ares rules, as opposed to the original rules. Not many differences, but they are there, and not recalling the difference between the two editions has cost me at least one plane (remember, no straights while on fire).
I really should read the new rules. There was a change in the wording on the rudder jams too, had a fifteen year old kid point the difference out to me when I was the one teaching the game. I gave him extra credit for the initiative, but I secretly aimed at his plane for the next three furballs.
The numbers really depend on holidays and snow too. Last month (Labor day), there were only 4 of us. Last night I think there was 8 of us. Rare to get much above a dozen, but has happened. I would say there are a average consistent attendance of 6 to 10. We start every night with a dogfight for late arrivals to get in before the big game, then we move onto a scenario, usually bombers or balloons or trenches or some other interesting oddity vs. either a defending or attacking squadron of fighters. Depending on time, we might usually get another dogfight (2 squadrons attacking each other).
Last night, I think it was 2 dogfights (forgot the first, but the second was Italians vs. Austrians), then 2 bombers + 1 escort vs. 5 defense fighters (with altitude). Again 8 players. Note the newbie (Bill) did well as escort giving me an explosion card just after two of us finished shooting down the first bomber. So he played well. Actually in one of the dogfights he also gave me the explosion card. Arg. Need to reassess jockeying to be on his team next time.
I think the first scenario was a dogfight, the second was strafing trenches... but we never got to the trenches because the cursed Italians stopped us . I did have a lot of luck for my first night out... I got a plane in each game, but it definitely was luck of the draw, not my skill. Honestly, I think I could have flown better, but give me some time. Hope to see you in October .
Too bad I missed it. I could have brought out my lucky Hanriot. (I've played it three times and pulled fists full of zero damage cards each time when taking hits.)
I think I need to head up your guys' way just to get some pointers on how to mix the game up a bit. With the students down here we play fuel and ammunition limits, and have run some simple scenarios. But it sounds like you're doing much more interesting ones.
This is the advantage of getting farther into the community. The cross-pollination of ideas makes things more rewarding.

If you want to see what we have done in the past look through our after action reports in the AAR section of the forum.
I don't know if this will work or not, but here is a link to a search I did on posts by jbmacek with the keywords Family Game Store.

Next game, October 12.
One week and a day.
Any suggestions?
Is this happening tomorrow? I may make the trip. If so what should I bring?
Sorry gang, but I can't make it tomorrow - hope you all have fun clearing the skies! See you in November...
I just stopped in today, so I likely won't be there tomorrow after all.
Tomorrow. October 12. Hope to see some of you there.
Okay, I'll start digging through boxes now.
I was thinking of an oddball scenario with a D.VII, but it can wait for another time.
That was easy. Three boats packed and ready to go.
I'll be there with the one flying boat I have. I'll also bring the water game mat
Cool. If we are doing floatplanes, we should have something with water.
I also packed the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 should we need something extra. Maybe not exactly historical, but it is there just in case.
Along with that I have the standard eclectic mix.
Hi all. This is Kirk. I'm new to these forums, but have played at the last couple of meetings at Savage Mill. Thanks for being so welcoming to new players there.
I'm finding the game to be a lot of fun, and am still running into corners where I'm vague on the rules. I haven't yet got a firm grasp on how quickly these planes cover ground, how quickly (or slowly) they turn, and how the combat zone moves around. (Plus when to toss in the towel on a lost cause so I don't keep us from moving on to the next scenario.)
In other words, there's still more for me to learn about what at first seems a very simple game. Your continued advice is more than welcome.
Kirk, I take it you are an old Marklander? I had no idea.
In any case, it was a pleasure to see you at the store again, and hopefully you will be back for more.
