Thread: Under Construction at the Columbia Aerodrome

LOL... that could be it, in the form of, "oh, look, this plane is even cooler looking!"

I have my sights set on finishing the two Roland D.IIs this weekend. If I get my son's Tripe painted, and any of the other Entente planes done, that will be icing on the cake.

I think I have two new (almost done) favorites!

Very nice paint jobs! Thats coming from an Entente player too.

I like your clasping equipment for painting, saves getting fingerprints and paint rubbing off as you go.

Thanks! I can't wait to use them.

I haven't posted anything here in awhile, so...

A new personal ride was needed, thus, my Fokker D.VII...

    In the raw, center plane.

    First coat of paint.

The first stripes, which were hand-painted.

    Then some pin-striping.

And then it sat on my work bench for ~six months.

Slice and dice decals... the lower half of the upper wing on a 3d printed D.VII is a challenge.

The crosses were off on the Reviresco decals, so I decided I'd chop them out, paint over it, and replace them with decals from Dom's Decals.

Pieced together the landing gear decal from leftovers. I'll do touch up painting next.

Step one -- painting over the white with a pale blue base color -- complete.

    Added some peachy colored blobs.

I thought about going back and redoing the blue, but decided it looks darker in the pic than it looks in real life.

Not quite done, but I wanted to take a pic just in case I mess up when I go to spray the last coat of clear.

Crosses on. Now to let it dry and hit is with some dull.

Pilot installed. I'm calling it done.

Thanks, Neil. Glad you like it. With luck I'll take it out next Monday and not get shot down by a bunch of Biffs.

A Magnificent piece of work John, and completed slightly quicker than my two Sopwith Pups. I really must get back onto them.

Thanks, and I can only hope so. I suspect Todd and/or Anthony will try to knock me out of the skies come this Monday. With luck, I'll take one of them with me.

Thanks, folks. And yes, Zoe is correct, that is an AGO, though I believe it is this one.

And... I'll have to talk to Will. Either he has the wrong radiator layout on 539, or I need to switch the descriptions of my models.

As do I... home-made or purchased product?

When I left home ~25 years ago, I took that with me. It belonged to my dad, but where he bought it and what he used it for I'm not sure. Possibly fishing lures. Or electronics/soldering.

They were made by a company called Micromark; I have 3 of them that my parents got me for Christmas many years ago. Very useful. They might still be around....

I finally finished the Alt-Hist MvR Fokker D.VII. It's just your basic red, so slightly bland. To spice it up a bit I tried giving it a weathered and battle-worn look.

Great looking red plane, and thanks for tracking down the hardware! I'm pleased to see it still exists and will look into getting something similar.

I'm just glad he didn't get to play with one of those for real Andy.
You have done a really smart looking worn look there John.

John that's one gorgeous looking Fokker D.VII, and you've given me some inspiration to complete my D.VII for Jasta 15

Thanks for the link, Zoe. You've saved me some time. I'm thinking of possibly mounting them on STAW bases. The size difference will make them a little harder to hit, which might make for a bit more fun.

Thanks Zoe. I've been curious about these, now I'll have to get some!

  44. #294

If you do, and if you plan on buying my version, please let me know before you do so I can string them all on a sprue. That will knock like $9 off of the current price.

Thanks John, I definitely will get your 10 Bugs. Let me know when it is good to go.

  46. #296

You might need more than 10; when I ran them in a game at Origins, not one got off the board, even though they were faster than the rules Zoe came up with.
It was a fun game, though, watching the CP players trying to get the bugs, while avoiding the SPAD escort

Karl, how many planes were flying to shoot them down? How many SPAD escorts? I guess at a convention game quite a few KBs might be needed.

I probably have pics of the action in one of my Origins' AARs.

Looks great. So I'm looking at 5 Fokker DVIIs, 4 SPADs, and 6 Kettering Bugs? I'm assuming 4 more bugs on the way soon?
