Default AAR - The Blue Max campaign - Stachel's first victim

Probably everyone on this forum is familiar with the 1966 movie "The Blue Max", together with "Von Richthofen and Brown" a staple of the pop culture of every WW1 aviation buff.
The movie was adapted from the 1964 novel of the same title by Jack D. Hunter. My copy looks like this

The book isn't that great piece of literature and does not shine with regards to realism, including precise identification of each aircraft participating in air combat and having German pilots feast in 1918 on chocolate, liquor, coffee and other luxuries like the Turnip Winter never happened.
Nevertheless, it does provide a few ideas for Wings of War scenarios, so I'll try to run my own solo campaign based on dogfights depicted in the pages of the book.
    Here it is...
    Lieutenant Stachel's first victory.
Leutnant Stachel in his Pfalz D.III is on patrol over the front lines with Oberleutnant Von Klugermann accompanying him in his Albatros D.Va.
No altitude, Aim rule in use.
The Pfalz has "Unreachable machine guns" and Leutnant Stachel is classed as "Rookie pilot".

The Germans spot a R.E.8 on a recon mission. Stachel lines up his attack...
Rather than approaching joust-like in a head-on, the R.E.8 manouvers to bring both guns to bear, trying to wedge himself between the Germans.

The rear gunner is quite busy for a couple of turns, despite first blood being claimed by the alcoholic, full of himself, irritable and ambitious Leutnant Stachel.
Von Klugermann manages to place himself behind the Belgian plane but fails to deal damage.

Trying to keep a flank safe from enemy attacks, the recon plane nearly gets out of the battlefield.

This gives enough space for the scouts to place themselves in a good firing position, making short work of the two seater, determining a resounding German victory despite the rising star of the Luftstreitkräfte getting injured in the pursue of his first prey.

Great idea! If I recall correctly, in the book Stachel flew an all black Fokker D-VII. My vote for an RAF color a/c would be the SE5 flown by Maj. Larrabee in Darling Lili.

As an aside, here is a very thorough writeup of the making of the film version of The Blue Max. Very interesting article.
