Fall In 2023 – Game 1 – An Afternoon Over Sedan
This is the first time I ran a Thursday night game at a HMGS. There aren’t many Thursday night games so I expected a reasonable turn out. Not much going on the night before the con officially opens. I was pleased to see Hell Spawn and his better half Ally. Since the last time I had seen them they had tied the knot! I’m starting to feel old as I watch my young pilots grow up over the years.
10 brave pilots climbed into their aircraft all eager to battle it out over Sedan
Summer 1918, the Americans are given the mission to bomb a rail yard in Sedan well behind the lines. The 96th is given the task with their Breguet 14 bombers while the 27th sent along some SPAD XIIIs for protection.
As the Americans come into sight of the Sedan rail junction they are met in the air by a collection of German aircraft. SSW D.IIIs, Fokker D.VIIs and Albatros scouts are intent on distracting the Americans as best they can.
The pilots maneuvering as quickly as they can. Me first! Hey you, outta my way! Move your plane before I ram you!
One brave Seimen Schuckert take on the American bombers. Zipping past one ge tting into its blind spot. Unfortunately another gets a shot at him setting him ablaze.
Ben in SPAD 9 (26 on wing but 9 on base) gets caught by Ally in her new Albatros DVa. Hell Spawn is just out of range but is pleased to see his wife fire the first shot.
Rob in Breguet 5 isn’t treated very well with both George (in the SSW D.III) and Eric (in the Fokker D.VII) dealing him a BOOM! Ouch.
Jen makes a run at the railyard with a burning Schuckett giving chase. Maybe it was the harassing Schuckert, Jen overshoots her target and has to try to line up another attempt to make a drop.
Thankfully for the two Breguets (both had overshot their targets) the pair of Hun scouts turn of.
The SPAD is too high to shoot. Maybe he’s staying up there until the Huns below thin out a bit?
The first bombs are dropped but fall short.
Ally (wounded Alb DVa) has a SPAD closing in from behind.
What! Not sure how I missed this during the game. I never allow food or drink on my game table. Someone will pay…..
Eric gets a direct hit on the train but his bombs do not detonate. The story of the American’s day.
Hell Spawn (Aiden) trades shots with a Breguet at long range.
Ally (Blue ALB) and Ted (DVII) work to get into position.
Jen and Eric, flying in formation, line up the third train in the north end of the yard.
Things get a little busy at the north end.
One Hun finally is downed by the Americans.

Bombs are falling towards a train engine while the sky is full of contorted aircraft, diving and twisting to attack or evade an enemy.
The tale of the day for the Americans…the engine escapes damage as the bombs either all miss or do not detonate.
The three German trains take minimal damage thanks to the Hun in the Sun distracting the American bombers.
