Thread: LEND LEASE 2024 RAFFLE #1

  1. #1

Default LEND LEASE 2024 RAFFLE #1

Its Lend Lease time again. This year it is the turn of the UK Wing to host one of our friends from The United States (and Canada). To date we don't know who the lucky candidate will be, but its never too early to start the necessary fundraising. To that end I am launching our first lend lease raffle of the year.
The prize for the lucky winner is a Balloon Busting Set

The prize consists of an ARES Balloon (your choice of colour - brown or yellow) and a rocket firing Nieuport 16 (Albert Ball VC)

If the lucky winner comes from mainland Europe I will have the prize taken to Prague, if one of our American friends win then I will see if anyone from here is heading to origins this year, or ask the lend lease winner to find some space in their suitcase. UK winners we can sort out delivery via shows etc. to minimise the cost to everyone involved. I intend to use the same system as for previous raffles I have organised (as it was simple and seemed to work smoothly), so...

Tickets are £1 each, payment via PayPal to hedeby@hotmail.co.uk

So thank you in advance for any and all contributions and good luck everyone

Just a question... who is heading up the Lend Lease operation on the American side?
    Anyone know?

Do they have a designated Wingco any more ? If not this might be an opportunity for them to pick one as well as nominate someone for LL.

Peter (Teaticket) and Jim (Rhodie80) handled my selection, with a bit of help from the Oberst.

Sounds like a plan. Exchange rate USD/GBP was kinda weird, though. Anyway, done.

Quite correct Tim. They are the men that Keith has placed this into the hands of as they are the most knowledgable about the actual mechanics of running these exchanges. I imagine they will be only too pleased that Chris has set the ball rolling from this end. I am just waiting for them to let me know the shortlist for this year so that we can decide who is the most worthy from the Americas.

Sadly Matt was our Fearless Leader. No one has been set up to fill in here for heading LL or anyother position. Jim and I have been given Supermoderator status but have not had anyone tell us what this actually means or what if any responsibilities we have.

Matt ran the LL for Tim's selection for 2020. Tim had already been chosen for 2020 before Matts passing. With Matt's passing and the Covid delays, Jim and I took the reins to get Tim to Origins in 2023.
I have no knowledge of any previous LL selection process. Did the UK/EU Wing handle the choosing of Karl and Mike for their LL honors?

    Rob.
Good to see Chris starting the ball rolling. I participated in the chooing process in 2019. Matt had set up a list of accomplishments/stats for starting the shortlist. I'm not sure how the names were chosen but guess it was by this set of stats and 3000 posts. Then I think everyone involved listed their top 3 of the list with any note on why these three made their top 3. I think Matt lined up the top candidates by his stat list.
For Reverse LL, should it be up to UK/EU to choose who makes the list of candidates?

This is one of Matt's posts from Oct 2019 to get the ball rolling-

    Lend-Lease 2020 candidates for discussion
It’s time to start thinking about our Lend-Lease participant for 2020 - the person who will be coming to Origins next year. In discussions with Keith (Oberst Hajj), we decided to include EU, UK, and Aussie potential candidates in the mix. I tabulated the various categories we use to determine potential participants - those with 3000 or more posts (that’s been the initial measuring stick for quite a while now)...

    Thanks for that, Peter.

I'd forgotten that I was selected before Matt's tragic passing - I must be getting old.

The selection process for my candidacy all went through on the "Lend Lease" section of the Forum, not accessible to the General Membership, an area of the Forum set up by Keith for this purpose, and not in the Officers Club.

May I suggest that this discussion be moved/restarted there instead of here?

Let's keep this thread for raffle news.

Neil (Skafloc) has already started a 2024 Lend Lease thread in that section for the selection to be discussed.
