So first up I thought we could repeat the game that worked so well for the Allies at Hammerhead... would we yet again display the dogfighting prowess of the SPAD XIII up against the dreaded Fokker D.VII?

So it would appear we are flying the slightly more flammable variant of the Spad. Not the best result from the first damage card of the day. But things can only improve from here.

Initial hope was rapidly quashed... first blood to the Germans

Actually, that should be first, second and third blood to the Germans, a whitewash with all Spads shot down. After that debacle we decide upon something different so we brought on a couple of Gothas to bomb the RAF airfield, with a flight of Sopwith Camels defending their airspace.

A much closer contest, the first Gotha managed to drop its bombs on the airfield (thankfully missing all the buildings including the bar). However it was immediately shot down by the airfields anti aircraft battery.

A similar fate befell the 2nd Gotha, another direct hit on the airfield, another direct hit for the anti aircraft team. The Camels did mange to down one of the D.VII escort planes (courtesy of Deadly M) - the first pilot success of the day for the RAF

It was wonderful to be able to battle Baron Rolf again after a few years, it was doubly nice to consign his lovely D.VII to a pile of flaming scrap. Emboldened by that success (and given it was the afternoon) I thought it was time to whip my Bristols out, so up for a challenge we went full on...

A lack of planning (and radios) meant that the majority of the Brisfits went after the escorts...

Unfortunately (1) that left the Zeppelin Staaken to me,
Unfortunately (2) I misjudged the approach and ended up behind the damn thing, behind it and at short range...
I did mange to claim a FULL HOUSE of special damage though... Pilot Wound, Smoke, Fire, Engine Damage, Rudder Damage and a BOOM card (I did manage to jam one of his guns)

FOURTEEN 'B' damage cards later my beloved (upgunned - obviously) F2B was nothing but debris.

However not all was in vain, as the short range A/B front guns of the Bristol had done some serious damage to the German giant, which meant that the rest of the team were able to destroy it as it made its final approach on the airfield. Great fun game, if a bit bloody at the start.

Thanks to Chris (Boney10), Andy (Hawkhurst), Marian (Deadly M), Mark (Baron Rolf) for their support and participation on the day and a special call out to Andy & Marian's Granddaughter who flew valiantly for both sides and seemed to have a great day... another Deadly M in the making I think.
