An end of winter storm has the pilots of Jasta 24 “Die Adler” wondering if their commanding officer, Obltn Bernhard Wienand, realized what he had sent them on.
Miserably cold winds and gusts of snow make it nearly impossible to see anything, let alone any possible enemy aircraft.
Unseen by the Adler pilots there are in fact enemy aircraft in the air not too far ahead.

“Sicherlich sind die Engländer nicht dumm genug, bei diesem Wetter zu fliegen ...“ thought Ltn Felix Eisenhardt.

Lt Auguste Blanc and s/Lt Albert Arnoux alongside s/Lt Constant Portron and Cpl François Raymond have been given the dubious mission of photographing troop movements and artillery positions.
“Comment veulent-ils que nous obtenions des photos décentes?*»
< How do they expect us to get any decent photos >

All four French airmen are thinking basically the same thing as they struggle to see anything.

Only one of the Strutters has a camera; the other is flying as escort.
    But which one?

    Victory Points

Both tandems shot down so no need to roll to determine which of the two was taking photos.

    Adler Victory!

    ========================================================

The Weather Die was giving me dismal results for the first six turns – I didn’t think I was going to have any chance to down anything.
Then it did a 180 and gave me 5 rolls of ‘1’ or ‘2’ and saved my mission.

On turn 11 I had started to move the planes and realized I hadn’t rolled again for weather.
I thought for sure that die was going to rob me of any more shooting.
    Huge relief when I rolled a “1”

Another interesting mission you gave us, Peter. Yours always have that bit of “Je ne sais quois”.
Appropriate for my choice of flying the French for the Entente in this one.

An interesting mission Pete, especially with the snow being so thick for most of it.

That was a 'game of two halves' as we say in England. A fine show by die Adler especially once the snow cleared. It is strange that a number of games have ben like that with heavy snow preventing the interception of the tandems in the first pass but clearing to allow the scouts an advantage on the return leg.

Lovely photographs make it look like we were looking down through gaps in the clouds. Rep inbound.

H Pete, similar outcome as my game, a good win in the end for the Eagle Staffel. Nice sheet and fluffy snow clouds. Like the first shot which seems to show sunrise on a snowy sky.

Very 'atmospheric' imagery, Pete, the lighting seems to have set this engagement off nicely. A good win for your chaps, I feel a rivalry coming on between your two top scorers.

Well done gentlemen, I'm surprised you found anything up in this muck but you did and downed them both. Now get yourselves warmed up and we shall adjourn to the Mess to properly celebrate Dietrich's victories

I found Raymond's probable, it seems the observer's were not very lucky in the crash landings, him in particular !
Maybe Eisenhardt should have broken off before he did but Oelker may well have had the second kill without his assistance anyway.

Lovely photos Pete, very realistically atmospheric Two kills to Ltn Dieter Oelker - congratulations to him. Quite remarkable under those awful conditions. Once again the shooting from the two seaters is pretty abysmal in defense. Back to gunnery school I should think.

All set for the final mission of the campaign then - bring it on

I forgot to give Raymond that Probable because it was only when posting that I realized I hadn't rolled for Eisenhardt's FRTB.
He was unable to turn back because he had both left and right rudder damage.
Luckily Oelker finished the job for him.

Another come back in the second half for the Alders. Oelker would not be denied! Eisenhardt might have to get even next time they fly and steal back his kill.
