Format: Paperback and Hardback
Summary: Blue Man Falling is a work of fiction. The squadron depicted did not exist and neither did its personnel. Many of the place names, be they in France, England or the USA likewise didn’t exist. The book describes the kind of events that occurred during the ‘Phoney War’ of 1939-40 and subsequently during the Battle for France in the very early stages of the war. The action revolves around two RAF Hurricane pilots, one British and one an American volunteer.
The action is constant and very believable, just surviving a sortie is considered a victory. There’s no comic book heroics and unbelievable dogfight outcomes, the whole thing is well written, considered and feels very accurate (although someone with a lot more experience may beg to differ...however the reviews I’ve read are all really positive).
Really great to read about something other than the Battle of Britain. In summary a cracking read, I would highly recommend it. I am now in search of the next two books that follow the experiences of our two main characters at the battle for Malta and then at El-Alamein.
