It is an interesting book. Picked one up myself. Some very good interesting material.
I actually like the Spad XIII, (I love the Spad VII), yes its not as manoeuverable as some but its fast (really fast). It can be a challenge to fly at times (bet the pilots thought the same thing) but thats part of the fun.
It would be a crap game if all we ever flew was Snipes and Fokker D.VIIs. I like the challenge and when you do get the better of a supposedly superior plane its an even better feeling. But at the end of the day I don't really care if I win or lose, its all about being round the table with a few mates.
I am usually ultra competitive but funnily enough not with this game, I like the challenge.
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
So, to put matters to the test... at Hammerhead today we started off with 4 Spad XIIIs against 4 Pfalz 12s (flown by experienced pilots inc. Flying Helmut). A great game took place with eight players.
How did it go? a resounding victory for the American & French Spads. Downing all 4 German planes whilst losing only two of their own number.
Just goes to prove, its not the plane, its how you fly it.
Get in fast, hit hard, get out fast (and play a lot of Immelman turns)
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
