Default Assault to the armoured train (solo scenario)

Was bored this evening so i just went to test a scenario that had crossed my mind some weeks ago. It depicts some very early stages of the war.

    Players: 1-(2 coop)
Table: 7 rulers x 4 rulers [played from the wide side]
German: A Stuka and a Me109 escort. Separated half a ruler each. Enter from the center of the german side. Stuka carries 5 bombs that do full damage on red dot contact and half the unit damage (rounded down) if only hits the card. Mess carries one lone bomb.
Polish: An armoured train consisting of the following cards: AA, Infantry, Infantry, Infantry, AA. An aditional stationary AA battery placed in the centre of the polish side. Infantry cars do B damage (playing i noticed that FftS infantry only do A damage as opposed to DoW's).

Rules: Altitude, Bombing, strafing, and AA fire for solo missions.

The Train: The train enters the game from either of the short sides of the table, 1 ruler from the Polish side. The train moves exactly 1 card distance every turn, so the firs turn, the AA car will enter the table, the next, the 1st infantry car will enter moving the previous car, and so on.

Each car which suffers it's full damage is silenced but will continue moving with the rest of the train.

    Winning conditions:
Each destroyed car grants 5 VP, each car damaged above the 50% grants 2.
Destroying the lone AA battery grants 2.
Each lost aircraft makes you lose 12 VP points. Each aircraft leaving the battle before the train leaves the table makes you lose 6 VP.

Later i'll post a briefing on my first run on this scenario. ^^

The scenario proves quite difficult as you are rarely not in range of AA turrets, but some good bombings can make up for it.

    Briefing:

My train entered through the right side, so I went for it directly trying to avoid the stationary turret, wich unfortunately got my stuka for 5 hitpoints just in the beggining.
I engaged the train when the fifth car was entering the table. The stuka dived straight for the AA turret in the front car from an angle and the Me overflow the train in the opposite direction of the convoy. I did not dare to dive with the Me fearing the 3 simultaneous infantry shots so y decided to go get to the end of the train and split S to get a good tailing position and altitude.

Things didn't go well for the stuka, The bombing was precise and blew away the first car and half of the second but the simultaneous infantry and AA fire that resulted left him badly wounded and burning.

As the Me strafed the tail AA at very close range, efectively silencing it, the Stuka climbed again, i needed to turn around either to flee or to drop another load. Draw an A counter for burn damage... anoher fire... this wasn't looking good and the fixed AA was to fire in the next turn... at least the tail gunner mannaged to silence the second car before climbing.

The next turn a lucky polish AA operator got promoted for blowing up what still remainded of the stuka. The Me was all alone.

After blowing his way through the tail car and positioning himself between that and the fourth the Me decided that if he was going to throw it's load, that was the moment.
I was tempted to alter my course to bomb the fixed AA instead, but the train advances surprisingly fast and i feared i couldn't catch up later so i went all for the train.

Despite the Me having taken a lot of counters from the infantry most ended being 0, and with the Me Bomb, the 3rd car of the train also blew up. Only the fourth remainded and in a few turns the train would be leaving the table. I had to climb again, to let the 4rth car surpassme, with the AA gun consecutively missing my tail. When the 4th car was in front of me again, i dived and i managed to strafe it until it was also silenced.

In the end that was 25 points for destroying the full train minus 12 for losing my stuka in some beautiful fireworks. For a total of 13 as i had to pass up on the fixed AA.

    Excellent AAR!

This is a pretty attractive scenario, all those objective+AAA cards all lined up sure look as a tempting yet dangerous target.

Glad you like it. It's the first time i ever do a solo scenario. I'm aware that some people have trouble finding playing mates, and in some forums I've seen people complaining and asking for more soo scenarios, so this is my little contribution.

This one in fact was designed with the idea of playing it cooperative with my girlfriend as playing one vs one plane is usually boring and taking two planes at a time is still too much for her to handle.

Solo missions sound good as I won't have anyone close by to play against.

Most of my friends or family who would have a go are either 45minutes to 1 and half away from where I live.

And trying to talk the wife into having a game is like trying to stop the tide from coming in ....pointless!!!! and the kids are still to young to teach...

    Cheers

Sounds very interesting! I'll give it a shot as a WWI scenario.

Nice mission. I flew the Me-109 E3, a bomb. I destroyed the rest of the objectives of airborne weapons. Congratulations on the nice scenario
