Default AAR AND PICS OF THE NASHVILLE FLIGHT IN ACTION

We had a short notice flight this evening (I didn't know I was running the game until yesterday).

First flight was an RE 8 on a photog mission escorted by 2x Se5a's vs. 3x Albatros DII's, 1x DVa and 1x Fokker DR1.

The three DIII's where all piloted by rookie flyers, adn it showed. Two of them couldn't maneuver to get into the fight until late in the match up. The first to go down was the DR1. The next to go down was the RE8, followed by one of the DVa. The remaining DIIIs where still trying to master their control sticks while the two Se5a's quickly \outpaced them and flew back to safety.

The next flight pitted three Se5a's against the DR1 and three DIIIs. This time my Se5a got slammed hard in a collision, and on the next card, got hammered by the DR1 and had catastrophic airframe failure (drew the explosion card!). The three DIII's (still piloted by novices) had a three way collision which sent one of them spiraling to the ground. A second Se5a finally fell to accumulated damage, and the 3d Se5a beat a hasty retreat back to his aerodrome.

Great AAR... and loving the playmat!!! Sounds like it was a very aggressive match. I was wondering if you had ever considered using a victory point system where a pilot would score perhaps 3 points for a kill, and -5 points for being shot down or crashing. This might give a little more incentive to flying safely and staying alive while attempting to down the enemy... just an idea that popped into my head frm one of the older games I have played over the years...

The collisions by the novice gamers where simply out of lack of experience. During the play, I too had a collision, unavoidable, as it was just a 'furball' of activity. We use the 'Burning Drachens' rules, and the 'C' damage deck for collisions. So far we've never had any intentional ramming, or collisions on purpose.

Were you all using the altitude rules as well? The games that I have used them in along with the collision rules were very enjoyable.

Yes. We use all of the optional altitude rules. We find it really adds to the enjoyment of the games.

Not low priced, but well worth the investment:

Thanks for the report, Brian. Like the pics, too. I'm surprised the SE5a's didn't go after the beginners in the D.III's even though you were outnumbered. Considering their problems and confusion, and the fact that the SE5a is a much better fighter than the D.III, I think there was a good chance the SE5's would have prevailed.

Initially we went after what we considered the greater threat.. the DR1 (experienced pilot... and know prolific cheater ). Then we tried to simply cover the R8.

I was talking about after the RE8, D.VA, and Dr.I were all eliminated. At that point it's the two SE5's vs. the three D.III's piloted by rookies. Of course, I have no idea what damage was taken by the SE5's up to that point, so there's probably more than meets the eye with the retreat.

Putting beginners in DIIIs against experienced pilots in SE5as? It seems to me like the odds would be stacked against the newbies rather severely...

Or did they choose DIIIs because the paint schemes looked cool? I can certainly understand that.

The experienced pilots should have made things more even - and flew Nieuports.

I agree with Wolfbiter - DIII's are fantastic looking. And I love flying them and their big brother - the Pfalz!
