Thread: Better to be born lucky than rich Dept.

Default Better to be born lucky than rich Dept.

Took delivery of two dozen WGF aircraft, sight unseen, no ID or maneuver cards but with bases. Given to me for running the WGF demo games at Cancon, and bringing new players in, not just WGF but wargames generally.

I had a few bits of GHQ microarmor - ok a whole soviet armoured brigade - I hadn't used since 1998, so after some persuasion on my part, the giver accepted them so to assuage my conscience.

So, to open up the shoebox, and see what was inside.

That's some of them. Schaefer D.VII, Brumowski D.III and the Seibert C.II complete my collection. The complete sets of Cameos, Dr.Is, Snipes(not shown) etc are just icing on the cake.

    Gosh.

As others have said, a great haul.
I am sure you will put them to good use.
I have a feeling that you might have cards that will tide you over with this bunch.

I have cards from the booster sets, and can manufacture maneuver decks.

Which means... I have a complete set of Camels, Dr.Is, D.Vs, Snipes, and quite a few spare Roland C.IIs, Spad 13s, DH.4s... so if you know anyone who's really been wanting that Rahm Dr.I, or that Udet D.Va... let me know. I can send them a used but compete in box one, and use the newly acquired ones with homebrew maneuver cards myself. I'm a gamer rather than a collector, and the number of planes I have is getting rather large.

    Lucky you Zoe, congrats
I also had a spot of luck 2 weeks ago ...
Bought 4 early boxes WOW on an Dutch online site (www.marktplaats.nl) ... Famous Aces, Watch Your Back, Burning Dragons and Fire from the Sky, mainly for the plane and manoevre cards. The parcel arrived and inside were the four boxes I bought ... all brand new, still in their shrink wrappings. But to my surprise there was another little unmarked box as well ... it contained 4 WW1 series 1 planes ... Spad XIII (Fonck), Spad XIII (Baracca), Fokker Dr.I (Kempf) and Albatros D.Va (Udet), all complete with bases, airplane and manoevre cards!
    I paid just € 40 (US$ 44, GBP 33) for the lot.
As you can easily guess ... I was a very happy man

    cheers,
    Guus

Quite the lovely surprise, Zoe - and it couldn't happen to a more appropriate person (which is probably exactly what the giver was thinking)

Glad they've made it to a good home at last.

    All the best,
    Matt

Well deserved spot of luck there, Zoe!

    Especially the N-16s!

Seeing all the effort you have put in over the years and the way in which you have helped people at your cost I must say that you deserve all the rewards that you get Zoe. You have been a guide and inspiration to many of us. Well done.
