Thread: Torpedoes for Devastator TBD

    Default Torpedoes for Devastator TBD

I apologize if this is already posted, but I've looked, and I can't find it on here anywhere. I'm trying to find 1/200 torpedoes for the Merit Devastators I picked up. In the photo, you can see that the aft end of the torpedo is partially enclosed in the fuselage. I'm curious as to whether anyone has a torpedo that mimics this so that the torpedo looks right when mounted to the bottom of the model. I've looked on Shapeways, but it looks like everything there is a full cylinder torpedo.

Anyone have a suggestion for this?

Shapeway torpedoes with the top half aft end filed down to facilitate torpedo position.

I was afraid someone was going to say that. I'm pretty sure I'd end up botching that. I guess I'll have to use them without the torpedoes unless anyone else has a better answer.

On the other hand, there is a well defined panel on the bottom of this model for the faux-bomb bay. I wonder if it might be possible to cut out the panel and mount a full torpedo into the hole. Has anyone tried to do this?

Seriously. I would feel better screwing up a torpedo and having to rebuild it than screwing up the aircraft that carries it. You are talking about a small piece of plastic vs a painted model.

What? I'll have you know I've been screwing up painted aircraft for years, and...

Oh wait, that was your point, wasn't it?

    Never mind...

It's a [CENSORED]in' *DEVASTATOR* -- it could not *possibly* be any more [CENSORED]ed up than it already is.... >:)

Devastator, the name is a description of what it was to it's occupants.

Tragically appropriate... woefully obsolete by the time it saw combat.

Bob I have those MERIT planes and no torpedoes on the ones I have. They must have changed the mold and added them.

There aren't any on his Merit devastators either - that's why he posted " I'm trying to find 1/200 torpedoes for the Merit Devastators I picked up."

The model in the photo has a rigging wire - it can't be a Merit.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

Use a cocktail stick. Round the end and cut to suit... gee whizz
How much is 50 cocktail sticks?? The width should be about right if a little fat. .

I see my mistake in not reading it correctly. I may have had a few of the perfect beers at the time.

Chris (Hedeby) had the same answer with the Kate, why release the torpedo when you can Kamikazi into the deck with it still attached.
