A Handley Page O/400 on a bombing run

Scenario was for the Handley Page on auto pilot to go from one end of the playing surface to the other and return as though on a bombing run. We used just two mats as the playing area. Trying to stop the success of the Handley Page were two Siemens-Schuckert D.III.

Despite the smaller playing area, after three turns (9 manoeuvres) there had been no action, just flying around.

However, the action soon began, with both of the Handley Page’s guns firing.

And the Siemens-Schuckert returning fire.

When the Handley Page had a choice of targets, we threw a die to decide. Rudolph’s number came up this time.

However, sometimes it was obvious – a plane at close range cops the fire, and so Blanc is the target this time.

When the Handley Page’s observer was taken out of action, the Siemens-Schuckerts could attack without fear.

And keep attacking

And keep attacking no matter what the other Siemens-Schuckert was up to.

Blanc’s Siemens-Schuckert got off one last shot, as the Handley Page was oh so close to home.

We found one missed damage card that didn’t get in the photo (hence the +2 added to the picture) which meant the Handley Page’s tally was 30!

That's a good question. We finished the game when the Handley Page got back to its starting point, downed, of course. We didn't try to get the Siemens-Schuckerts home too.
