My second game, Raid on Rabaul. Six pilots, each flying two planes. Japanese each had two A6M5s while the Americans flew a P-38 and a B-25 H. 1st pass with a B-25 H had parafrags to take out ground targets, a 2nd pass with a new B-25 had a 1000 pounder to skip bomb the ships in the harbor.
First action sees an P-38 put smoke on a Zero.
As the Americans close in on the harbor the Zeros turn in behind them.
A B-25 begins to burn as the Zero overshoots and passes over it.
Ground fire appears to come from everywhere and a P-38 lights up.
Even though on fire, the P-38 pilot keeps his cool and downs a Zero.
The P-38 is quickly downed by another of the many Zeros above Rabaul.
A B-25 is also taken down and splashes in the harbor.
Ground
AA defenses and a transport take damage as the Zeros try their best to stop the strafing Americans.
Another B-25 crashed next to the shore line.
The Japs are feeling good as another American falls from the sky.
Another wave of Americans try to get in unnoticed while the Zeros are busy over the harbor. The cruiser sends up flak in the path of the B-25.
A Zero splashes in the harbor.
A Zero on a bad place.
Direct hit with a 1000 pound bomb on the cruiser...
But as the B-25 tail gunner watches, he does not see the expected geyser of metal, water, smoke and fire. The bomb is a dud! ('0' blue chit)
The mat is from Vistaprint and is a satellite image of Rabaul and Simpson Harbor.
