Thread: RFC Nieuport 11 - A 2017 Lend-Lease Fundraiser

  1. #1

    Default RFC Nieuport 11 - A 2017 Lend-Lease Fundraiser

Herr Oberst asked a few of us if we could produce some custom paint jobs for the 2017 Lend-Lease Fundraiser and document our efforts if we could - he has now allowed me to create this thread to show off my effort:

Answering the call for volunteers for the Lease Lend repaint raffle this arrived at home in December - a De Turenne Nieuport 11

Out of its box - Hmm. What to do with it ? Well there's no RFC Nieuport 11....

Decision made - lets get busy - Well, lets get rid of those markings and undercoat it first.
(Sorry for the picture quality) - all surfaces are painted white and if you look carefully the engine & Lewis MG have received a little attention..

Next, lets go back to a clean doped finish - all surfaces get a coat of GW Bleached Bone, and for those paying attention the cowling has been painted in GW gunmetal, the gun has also been highlighted.

Now what.... ah, a bit of black lining around the wing edges and fuselage, and the gun mount has been painted grey.
(a time when the CAD design helped out !)

Thanks for letting us see the method used, Squadron Leader!

It will look great alongside my new repaints.

Excellent job, Dave. Rep-worthy! But alas, some of the paint from the mount must have gotten into the firing mechanism. Rep gun jammed.

Sorry, Dave, but I hope to spoil your plan and have your fantastic handiwork remain in The Colonies

Guess I had better get my tickets purchased when I get back from California this weekend.

    Thumbs up

    Nice work flash!
Humm I do not have a N.II apart from the Balloon Busters camo one so that would make a nice "wingman".

A lovely repaint, Dave. I'm sure whomever wins it will cherish it.
Many thanks for helping me get over the pond.

I forgot to take pics of the Albatros D.II I painted for the raffle before sending to Keith . However. it's Josef Jacob's D.II, an early version which involved removing the wing radiator and adding 'ear' rads to the side, and tweaking the engine.

Never mind, I'll take pics after I've won them

Thanks everyone, please also share the love with my compatriots in this years Lease Lend venture - Phil, Steve & Peter, they have produced some cracking repaints for us to fight over.
(L-R) Albatros D.II painted by Phil - milcoll73, Albatros D.II painted by Steve - Guntruck, and far right SPAD S.VII painted by Peter - Teaticket.

I was extremely pleased to win back in 2015. Planes painted by your fellow 'Dromiers is a real honor.

I didn't do a start to finish photo series, just a few of the finished model. SPA 78, Armand Pinsard.
