    Default Huzzah! May 19-21

At this year's Huzzah in Portland Maine, I will be running 2 games.

    Huzzah! website 'HERE'.

    'Operation Michael', game 515, Saturday(20th) evening, 7:30-11:30

The German offensive to break the line and end the war before the Americans arrive in force was under way. Dedicated Schlachtstaffeln were supporting the advancing troops makinig it very difficult on the retreating Entente infantry. 2 seater ground attack aircraft with escort face off against everything the Entente could muster in the air. Late war aircraft at their finest, Fokker DVII, Sopwith Dolphin, Hannover CL III, SE5a, AEG JI, Bristol Fighters...and more.

'Dragons over the Reich', game 603, Sunday(21st) 9-3.

Rumors and spy reports were getting out of hand in the spring of 1945. Allied bombers and even escort fighters that were lucky to return did so with scorched wings and fuselages. No one could tell for sure what was going on over the mountains of Bavaria. Stunned, wide eyed airmen only repeated, dragons!
Over the later war years German scientists had been working on cloning Pterodactyl but the end result even surprised them. Some recovered DNA from remote northern Norway produced something far more successful than they ever had hoped for.
The Allies finally put together what was going on and organized a daring raid to the breeding facility deep in Bavaria...*

    AAR Operation Michael

This game had 2 AEG J.Is conducting ground attacks supporting the advancing German shocktroops. Target cards represented the retreating British. The AEG J.Is had twin downward fixed machine guns to the front and an observer with Parabellum and some cluster grenades. The forward mgs only could fire downward. The cluster grenades drew a 'D' damage card with the '0's removed from the deck. Target cards took 12 hits to take out. Ther Germans also had two escort scouts. The British had four intecepting fighters.

My special rules for the armored AEGs are,

    For ground fire,
1, A fire damage card is downgraded to smoke. (2 smokes still = fire)
2, Ignore the first engine damage.
3, Ignore the first wound per crew (If the first crew wound went to the pilot it was ignored but noted. If the second crew wound went to the pilot, he was now wounded. If a third crew wound went to the observer, it was ignored but noted...)

All damage taken from enemy aircraft is normal.

One of the AEGs was downed by enging hits.

Incredibly, one AEG got to take one forward shot an a British scout that flew right in front of it and below! (poor pilot was just out of flight training)
That AEG was piloted by my wife.

    About these dragons...

I made three 54 card damage decks. One for Dragon's Breath, one for Dragon's Claws and one for Dragon's Tail.
The breath is a narror cone, but any plane in it will take a Dragon's Breath damage card. Dragon's Breath is effective 180 degrees to the front.
One plane overlapping the dragon will take a Dragon's Claw damage card.
One plane within short range to the rear 180 degrees will take a Dragon's Tail damage card.

The dragon can make 2 different attacks a turn.

When a fighter takes damage from the claw or tail there is the possibility of the plane being knocked down a level or spun 90 degrees.

You can see some damage cards at the top right of the third photo above.

For movement I made a random movement chart similar to the Solo 2nd Generation set. It only has one option per roll, so the dragon rolls every turn after the planes have plotted. The dragon reacts immediately!

I made a movement deck for the Dragon's Flight. It has four lengths of straight, four corresponding Immelmanns used related to the speed of the previous card played, three turns right and left, a long and short 150 degree right and left.

I was very happy on how it played out. Can't wait till Origins where I should have a full table.

Fall In is on my schedule. I plan on running 3 Wings battles there. Not sure which ones yet. I will post them when I have submitted the games, probably August or September.
