On the night of Anzac Day we held a commemorative game of Wings at our Games Club.
First is a photo of the 6 players who took part.
Left to Right: Alex, (Shapeways D.II) Baz (FE 2b), Chris Halvo (Bolcke D.II), Arianne (Sopwith Pup), Glenn F (both BE 2c's) & Chris S (Richtofen's D.II)
The opposing forces started from opposite ends of the Games Mat & the BE's had to fly to the German end, take photos & return safely to Allied territory.
The FE was aggressive both dealing out & receiving damage.
On the other side of the table the BE's & Pup approached Bolcke's Albatross.
With its very first exchange of fire the Pup sent the Albatross crashing to earth with a Boom card!
Meanwhile the FE was giving Richtofen a bit of a pasting.
Then the BE with the offset wing mounted Lewis assisted the FE who was still hitting the Barons aircraft.
Richtofen who had been set on fire by the FE continued to be harried by the cheeky BE but got some revenge on the second BE!
The BE's were now approaching their target area & Halvo was allowed to re-spawn his Bolcke Albatross D,II.
He immediately made his reappearance felt hitting one of the BE's
The Pup now added to the Baron's woes while the FE closed in from behind.
The BE's were playing a dangerous but effective game with the rear fireing one protecting the tail of the one with the wing mounted Lewis.
The Pup & FE continued to shadow Richtofen's Albatross & cause damage.
The front BE had suffered a jammed Lewis & Alex's Albatross closed in for the Kill!
In one of those coincidences that seem to often occur in Historically based games the FE now shot down Richtofen's Albatross which was what happened when he was wounded in the head.
The next photo shows just how many damage cards it took to bring down the Baron's aircraft. The Fire damage is shown on the far left of the photo.
Soon after the Huns got their revenge by downing the brave FE which had been flying with only 2 damage points remaining since those early exchanges.
The FE was soon followed by the second BE which came under the guns of both remaining Albatross leaving the Pup as the only British aircraft still flying.
The valiant Pup pilot turned to face the German Foes rather that run for home.
However the outcome was as expected & the Pup crashed to the ground under the onslaught of 4 Spandau Machine Guns.
The damage taken by the other two German planes is posted below.
Well the result was Historically accurate for Bloody April but at least the British downed two of the Albatross D.II's including the famous Red Baron!
Everyone had a real blast playing that & there were lots of Anzac Cookies consumed during the Game.
Hopefully we paid our respects to all the Brave Aircrews who flew in Bloody April 100 years ago.
