Default Prague Con 2017 New Friends

    New Friends,

When ever you travel the world you meet new people and make new friends,

It is interesting how interpretations and 'cultural behaviour' provides different understandings for different nationalities

    But some things never change!

Allow me to paint a picture of the situation,

Paul aka Tikkifriend, Steve aka Guntruck, Reg aka Rebel, and Simon aka Maverick are sat with Sven aka Marechallannes

Game One on Friday afternoon was run by Paul a scenario of German Bombers attacking RAF Biggin Hil

Sven has had a phenomenal game flying an Me110, resulting in bombing a 2 Nissan hut complex, strafing the Aircraft tower,

and bombing a building block (christened the loo block) more reference to this later!

it is now Saturday morning, game one day two has just finished, we are awaiting the setting up of game 2.....

Simon; Sven have you been to England before?

Sven: As a child, I remember my mum and dad sending me off to get beer..

    Simon: What happened?

Sven: I walked for half an hour finally I found one pub, they would not sell me any beer, so then i walk all the way back again.

    Simon: How old were you?

    Sven: 14.

Paul: Did you see anything else when in England?

Sven: oh yes, we went to Hastings and saw the battle field...

My Mum and Dad sent me off to see the Bayeux tapestry but i never find it?

I was gone a long time!

    Paul...But it's in France?!

    Sven: Really?

Paul: Yes it's always been in France, it's in the town of Bayeux.

Simon: Sven how many Brothers and Sisters do you have?

    Sven: I have three Brothers

    Simon: Older or younger?

Sven: I am the second Brother, two younger one's

Simon: Sven, now you know why you have two younger brothers!

Simon, Paul, Steve & Reg laugh A LOT!

Simon: In England when Mum & Dad want some 'time together' they normally
give the kid some money and send him off out to the cinema!

Some things are the same in every country!

Yes folks it's all true, you couldn't make this up!

And Oh! so true! I was there and heard it first hand. I have to admit that during the same game that Sven was blowing up everything my ME109 E3 was shot down by a Boulton Paul defiant. Yes that got some laughs as well.

Defiants were extremely deadly in this game... Wish RAF the same effect during BoB

And the story? Nice and real, of course

My Defiant has been active at four shows now and never shot down although it averages one kill for each show.
It is so slow that by the turn it arrives most other aircraft are down to a few points, and by the time they have finished laughing at it the damage is done.

If this is supposed to make me feel better, it failed.

At one point it looked like the Defiant was chasing Reg, not the other way around

With it's virtually 360deg firing arc it was impossible to find a position where it could't hit me. And yes, it was nicely painted!

Monday 24th April all friends already gone, only me left, (late flight) a whole day to kill so my last bit of sightseeing of the weekend. Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square (which incidentally is not a square at all but a very big rectangle. Nice weather.

Prague Con Painting competition in which I entered my B29 Superfortress.
Competition was run by Sven (Marechallannes) and had nine entries.
Sorry but I did not take photos of any of them, don't really know why, just too busy I suppose. Sven very cleverly avoided answering my question, "How many points did mine get?". I have a nasty feeling it was probably zero.Click image for larger version.

'Monsoon Goon', one of the first 53 B29's off the line and therefore painted the standard Olive Drab and Neutral Grey.

    Sorry Reg.
That was my best shot at it.
    Oops! I'll rephrase that.

A beautiful model of yours Reg, no doubt about it, comparing to my humble Pearl Harbor Val, that made my hair much more grey (those bl..dy yellow stripes!).

Forgot to say this but when you go to different Cons you meet a number of different people. I have met a number of people by going to Origins/Historicon/Cold Wars/Fall In and the Williamsburg cons. Always great to put names to the faces of the people here.

Well despite my pessimism apparently my B29 came equal 5th so Sven was not after all being kind, he just didn't hear me.

    Question

O.K. Sven. So who did win the painting Comp with the Japanese Bomber ?

  19. #19

    Default

    Lucky winner was Nemanja.

I have no closeups of the single planes. I hope we'll see them in the repaint section, soon.

Myself returned Sunday evening & needed some time to sort out all the prepared CON stuff.

Hopefully I can offer you guys a report in the next days.

Here are the repaint contest winners:

"little Martin" 3rd place with a Russian Dakota transport plane
"Nightbomber" 2nd place with a Aichi Val dive bomber
"Nemanja" 1st place with a Japanese medium bomber

    Voilą le soleil d'Austerlitz!
