Why F-51s (when we already have enough Mustang love) when we can have twice as much Mustang love with the F-82!

We have a post WW2 section these days, perhaps we could start a thread there discussing Korean War options?

Because except for a relatively brief period at the very beginning of the Korean War, the F-82 saw no combat; and it was out of the game by late '52. The F-51 was used throughout the conflict.

    I'd love a "Little Friends" P-51B/C in a boxed set with a B-17 versus some Bf.109F/G interceptors.

With that said, I suspect the B/C version of the P-51 would be functionally identical to the D, so probably not that compelling compared to a truly new release.

P-51B/C only had four .50s rather than the six of the D, so it'll drop firepower down to BB/B rather than BBB/BA of the 51D.

Functionally that looks like it'd be the only difference- with the changes to other characteristics being pretty small.

Except that a -51B/C would require a wholly different mini from the -51D -- different canopy designs.

IIRC, the razorbacked P-51 was a few MPH faster than the bubbletop; not enough to change the maneuver deck.
It was felt the improved visibility more than made up for the slight loss in speed.

Very true, and some of us prefer the razorbacked ones, esthetically.

Yeah that's what I meant by functionally- the games design aspects, rather than the aesthetics of a different mini. The bubbletop P-47D is a similar situation. I'd love to see a mini, as the P-47 is probably my favourite WW2 fighter, but it would fly the same as the existing razorback version as the differences are small enough as to be negligible within the WGS system. (which is fine).

I never caught that before - very interesting!

I'd love to have the razorback cockpit, it's just such a cool look. But there are many other planes we need Ares to release first. There's always Shapeways, after all

The thread has obviously attracted some interest - almost 1300 views in just 2 weeks! I think my aim of provoking comment and discussion about possible future products has been achieved. I'll keep posting ideas as they come to mind, but please feel free to offer up more of your own

A few I am working on:

    Blitzkrieg

    New Guinea Campaign

    Guadalcanal Campaign

    Battle of the Philippine Sea

    Raid on Schweinfurt

    Siege of Malta

    Fall of Singapore

    Operation Torch

Default WGS Raid on Dieppe concept product

Another 'Raid Pack' concept, bomber, escort & interceptor. These aircraft took part in the raid on Dieppe codenamed Operation Jubilee on 19 August 1942.

Erich Rudorffer shot down two Spitfires over Dieppe. During the same battle RAF Eagle Squadron pilot Don Gentile bagged one Fw 190 and a Ju 88, and damaged three Do 217s and three more Fw 190s.

If we are only talking about Air to Air combat yeah, it scored the first 3 kills for the the U.S. (and technically the first kills for the U.S.A.F. which had come into existence in '47 I believe) and one other victory later on and then no further Air to Air victories, but until it was retired in '52 it was used in ground attack missions. Plus it is one wicked looking aircraft.

Part of the problem was: Production of the -82 had ended in '48; the units operating them were running out of spares, so as units became unserviceable, they were replaced rather than repaired. So while it look pretty, it's not exactly a unit which brings to mind "famous air battles".

Carl I still say they should hire you as an IDEA MAN. Your concepts are outstanding. Some of them already have the planes they make. So would just be like the BoB set. We played a TORCH game last year at the Guns of August con. Wildcats/Dauntless/D-520. Since there are already ARES planes that is something to think about for them.

Be nice to have elves of my own to keep the herd of cats down if nothing else. But then some of us have to do on our own...sigh..tried to teach the cats to paint but their tails are too fluffy for detail work.

plus, when you explain how you want the mini painted they just knock it on the floor!

Well, now I just have to have this! Sterling Archer in Archer: Danger Island, flew a Polikarpov I-15 during the Spanish Civil War.

“Reverse” ace. Is that a term? ;-)

Well, based on the speed listed on Wiki (900km/h), the straight arrow would be 12.9cm or 5.08".
The longest decks so far (R, T and P) are 7.7cm or about 3".

I would buy the Ploesti set, Kursk set and North African set. I would like an appendix to the North African set; "Combat Over the Mediteranean" including a Fairey Swordfish, Fairey Fulmar and a Savioa Marchettii SM.79. Carl can you add art for this one please!

OK, how about a slight twist on the box sets.
    Tanks Busters
    Typhoon with rockets
    Stuka with wing mounted cannon
    Rocket mounted P 47
and that Soviet tank buster (name escapes me at the moment)

Add in a sheet of counters for rockets and ammo. Also a deck of cards with tanks, bunkers, and other hard targets on the battlefield.
