Default My Favourite plane this week is ....

    Siemens-Schuckert D.III

Our Tuesday night clash consisted of 3 of us taking 3 planes of the same type each and battling each other. At the end of the night I was very impressed with my SS D.III. At first I thought that with 14 damage points against my opponents 16 on their planes I would be at a disadvantage but with that marvelous side slip I did very well. I like those little planes, especially the black one with the skull and cross bones on it. Just right for an old sky pirate like me

Yeah the S-S D.III is a very capable plane Gary & fun to fly.
I have the 2 blue ones & they will be due to make an appearance in the OTT Bitter End campaign real soon.

Yes, I like the Siemens-Schuckert D.III too. I own all three. In W.W.1 they were used mainly to intercept the raiding day bombers of the British Independent Air Force and were well respected by its crews to the extent that someone wrote a poem about them, which went something like,

"We're not afraid of the Fokker Scout.
    It's the Siemens-Schuckert that we're worried about.
They fly so high with beaucoup speed,
We're just glad it's pilots they need."

That poem sums it up nicely !
The O deck is a beast with no limiting steeps on its turns & slips.

    ...I'm undecided.

Got only one miniature of this plane, like the Sopwith Snipe, Fokker E.V and the Nieuport 28.

That is key. Whenever I fly a SE5a I immediately get wounded. With it's 90* and wide side slip being steep maneuvers I lose it's advantages. SS D.III is quite nice.

The Siemens-Schuckert D.III is a great improvement over the Fokker Dr.1 , the Pfalz D.III and the Albatros DVa.

I have one earmarked for a full "Steffi" panoply when I can get around to it.

Thanks to Tim above, I too have a pirate-theme S-S D.III and it is one of my favorite planes! (Thanks again Tim!!)

Such a great little dogfighter. I'll gladly take it for a 1v1 against any other scout in the game.

I have two of each, but haven't made any changes to the second ones, so have not used them all at once yet.
The special moves saved my pilot's bacon more than once against a pair of SE.5a in the the recent "Lambs" fiasco.

They will be escorting my two-seater for the Kaiserschlacht this weekend ...

Here are a few photos of our Tuesday night clash - totally unrealistic but a whole heap of fun - we flew 3 SE 5s against 3 SS D.IIIs against 3 D.VIIs. It was my suggestion as we hadn't met for a while and so were all suffering from withdrawal symptoms and also I was looking for a real 'furball' with planes going in all directions.

It was partly prompted by my reading of Bill Lambert's 'Combat Report'. Well, actually it was Gary's fault because he loaned me the book

What was the final result of your three sided battle, please, Wayne?

If my memory serves me correctly, 2 of Windy Jack's SE5s and 2 of my D.VII's were shot down but none of Baxter's!!

Going through a two seater phase, so really liking my Hannover. It took down two Snipes in one game recently; not something you see everyday. I'd buy another without thinking about it. I think I have to have a closer look at the S-S Dlll from what's been said. Nice litle plane. I also like the look, and performance, of all three Ares versions of the Fokker D Vll.

I thoroughly recommend the Fokker D.VII.

I should do, I've got 47 of them!

    Nope!

I've plenty more for repaints, Valoms for construction, even a bag full of Red Eagle metal ones!

When I have finished the next 3, I'll post up a "Big 50" thread (assuming I can get them all in a single photo)

I think my SWMBO would balk at renting a storage unit for the number of models you have, Tim.

    Unless ......
Maybe if I offered one-for-one planes for shoes ....

    Go for it!

Every time she sees a shoe she likes, you get TWO minis!

My memory of the end result is different. There were no SE5a's in the air - two going down to boom cards and the other one worn down flying solo against all the other planes. There was one D.VII in the air. And, though Baxter was worried about their 14 damage points (vs. 16 for the other planes), all the SS DIII were still flying.
