Just checked my account and was very distressed to discover that my order for the starter set and commander's pack has disappeared yet previous orders are still shown.

I checked a few days ago and my order was listed at that time. I didn't cancel anything so I'm not sure why it disappeared.

I wondered lonely as a cloud
    Over foggy hills and dales
When all at once flying proud
My BoB minis arrived in a big brown box delivered all the way from USA fantastic...Must unwrap...Must play..Must play
Then I woke up and it was all a dream

The Battle has arrived in Arizona! Spent the day pouring over the lot and a lot there is to see, and a bit to do! It will take a day just to strip off all the plastic wrap on all the minis! Here's my contribution to the cause:

And the cool bases I got from the Aerodrome! Very nice, did the lettering with a spray can - before I stripped the paper this time!

    Thinking I need more Spits, Hurries, and Stukas . . . . !

Keiths bases for the Spits are awesome.

Likewise the nice people at Games Lore have them in and, for those of us who are London based, Leisure Games appear to have them in stock in their shop as well (if a bit more pricey).

For those who had their orders shipped by USPS, did your tracking status get updated at all? My only bit of information was that my order arrived in Denver on March 25th. It doesn't say anything about it leaving that facility and I can't seem to get anyone on the phone in order to find out any more information. All I get is an automated system informing me that my order arrived in Denver on the 25th. It's very frustrating.

I'll bet it's in the capable hands of Canada Border Services ....

I sent a tracked package from Portland to Vancouver in February - last trackable entry was the post office in Portland until it was finally delivered 6 weeks later

Don't try and figure out how things are shipped. I had a book order that started in Hanover, PA, which is about 60 miles from me. It went to York, PA. About 100 miles away. Then to Harrisburg, PA. About 130 miles away. From there to DC and then to my house. To go 60 miles it was 5 days. I sent a shirt to Baz in Australia and it was 7 days. Go figure.

I had to ask Keith to light a fire under USPS as the tracker said they hadn't received my package. Seems to be on its way now, slowly but surely.

Meanwhile I ordered a BoB set and a Stuka from Entoyment to tide me over, which arrived in 3 days. Have to say the Spitfire lived down to my expectations (cannon bulges on the wings??), the 109E isn't bad (recognisable as a 109E, but why bombs?) and the Stuka hasn't come out of the box yet but looks OK from the top (probably has holes in the underside of the wings for A/T cannon....).

37 planes for Ł90? Do tell Tim.

    All boxes scuffed or damaged.
I opened all of them, except those in shrinkwrap; only 3 planes are damaged (one Alb.D.II has lost a prop blade, one Bf.110 has a broken tail plane, one seaplane has a detached tail assembly).
All have intact, undamaged pegs, cards, decks, bases.

    Bargain at under Ł2.50 each!

If the wings look like the above, then they are accurate. Cannon blisters would be more outboard.

The small blisters on the center inner wing are for the landing gear clearance, actually, IIRC.

Or this image might be better?

As to the bombs on the Bf-109, well that was sad. Bf-109 E-7s were field modified with centerline bomb racks, and IIRC, could use drop tanks. But even though E-4s potentially were modified to carry bombs, the E-3s never were.

So, the bombs are very unfortunate, and I plan to use my two Nexus E-4s as escort E-3s, and swap my Nexus stands to the two Ares Starter Set E-3s for any scenario requiring bombing missions (HMS Glorious, look out!). That should sort that issue out. The Drop Tank equipment cards, regrettably are useless in historically accurate scenarios, unless we are calling the Bf-109s E-7s.

Standby for the bombs on the Crappycanes, if you buy any...

    All,
Steve pointed out in another thread that his Nexus Spitfire has Cannon blisters!

So, I checked my own. Argh! There are Cannon blisters on my Nexus Mk. II Spitfires!

The paint job on the Hurricanes is definitely a step down from the Nexus era models. They used decals and there is a lot of blank space on the leading and trailing edges of the wings, tails, etc. I suspected this would be the case after what I saw from the Bf-109Ks and SBDs but the Hurricanes seem even worse. The decals on the tails don't even mesh up with the main body. Shame that quality has slipped so much.

After recently getting into WGF at the beginning of the year I was surprised by the quality (or lack of) with the new WGS BoB minis. Undeterred I have touched up my hurries and spits with Humbrol No.29 Dark Earth and No. 30 Dark Green, not a perfect match but close enough for me. Also added some weathering on the undersides using flory models black wash. What do you think...?

On to the decals next.....then to decide what to do with the god aweful 109's, the two in my starter box have frosted canopies and the fitting is appalling. The Stuka's on the other hand may get away with little to no work.

Very well done! I will be having the elves do the same, also contemplating replacing the props with disks too. . . As we wait this month a huge order of magnetic stands is also winging it's way over from the orient . . . Looks like the Battle begins here in the AZ in May . . . : )

Shame you had to do this to models that are supposed to be ready out-of-the-box, but I like the panel lines.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Starter Set planes. I pre-ordered the Starter Set based on the preview pictures on this site, as they looked darn good. I was hoping the production run on those minis would be better, as they may have been done on a separate run from the squadron packs. If they are as bad as you say, then the production facility did the old bait and switch. Produce good test models for approval, and then put out crap as fast as possible to get their money and get on to the next job.

Now I am fearing the arrival of my set.

The Spitfires are no where near as good as the Nexus models. Hated the RAF sky on the leading edges of the wings and rudder so they got the dark green brush over. Fortunately I am using Miscminis decals for 92 Sq which look to be far superior so will avoid the problems others have encountered .
As for the 109s Nexus have it again. The radio antennae looks like a cocktail stick!! and why the pale coloured pilots heads??

All in all they looked rushed and and of overall poorer quality than the nexus series. Couldn't they buy the moulds from nexus and start again.

So many times the quality of their minis recently has been pointed out, even before this BoB release but nothing seems to change.
Can anyone with a close relationship to Ares confirm quality control is a very high priority because its not visible to the consumer?
I love Ares and they are an amazing company to deal with but this 'leading edge' issue among others has gone on for a few releases now....
