Final call to SEQ members, the Caboolture Great War airshow is on this weekend from 0900-1500hrs each day.

A story about the event made the local news tonight, so there might be a decent crowd.

But like BobP said, please do post pics.

I am not at my PC right now so I can't upload the photographs from my camera, but I'll start uploading some from my phone. This one is my daughter Amelie at the controls of a DHC-4 Caribou.

The 'crew chief' for the old Caribou told me it is well maintained by ex Air Force volunteers and assured me if CASA would let them fly the beast it could.

I think I'll go back on Sunday, the wind came up today and the Eindecker did not get airborne. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I'd be more worried if the wind came up, and the Eindekker *did* get airborne....

    "Where's the Eindekker?"

Close to the mark Chris. When TAVAS first got the E.III there was some discussion about who would be the accredited pilot on the type. Being notoriously difficult to fly nobody was in a rush to sign up.

Reproduction Fokker E.III Eindecker built as it would have been coming out of the factory in late 1915 or early 1916, in its clear doped, unbleached, linen finish. The airframe was made in Germany as per the original. The engine is a reverse engineered copy of the unique rotary engine that powered this aircraft. It was produced by Classic Aero Machining Services in Blenheim, New Zealand. The linen to cover it has come from Belgium, from the same family run business that was making the same fabric for these aircraft 100 years ago. This aircraft is finished as one that was known to have been operated by the Turks at Gallipoli and possibly against Australian troops. It was flown by (amongst others) Hans Joachim Buddecke. The last Australian to die during the Gallipoli campaign was shot down by Buddeke who was flying an Eindecker at the time.

The Bristol F2B Fighter was built by Ed Storo in the USA and first registered in 1992 as N624. It was subsequently sold to TVAL in NZ in late 2001 and changed colour scheme. After TVAL brought it across ‘the ditch’ for the Australian International Airshow at Avalon in February 2015, it remained in Australia and is now operated as part of the TAVAS collection. The aircraft has been repainted and the serial number be changed to B1229 which was operated by Capt. Ross McPherson Smith of 1 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps in Egypt.

The RAF SE.5a was imported from Europe in 2015 and is powered by a Ford V6 engine. It is finished as the aircraft flown by Australian pilot Lt. Frank Alberry. He enlisted in 1914 and whilst serving as an infantryman with the 8th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force, Sergeant Alberry's right leg was amputated above the knee after he was wounded at the battle of Pozičres in July 1916. For his actions that day, he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Recovering from his wounds, he petitioned King George for a transfer to the Australian Flying Corps and began his training in the summer of 1917. Posted to 2 Squadron of the Australian Flying Corps on 16 June 1918, Alberry was wounded again on 13 August 1918. By the end of the war he claimed two Fokker DR.Is and five Fokker D.VIIs flying the S.E.5a. He was discharged on 6 March 1919.

Rittmeister Freiherr Manfred von Richthofen's all red Fokker Dr.I was TAVAS first flying reproduction purchased from the United States. It was constructed from both the Ron Sands plans and the Walt Redfern plans and is for the most part, incredibly accurate. The main deviations from authenticity being the use of disk brakes for safety, a tail wheel instead of a skid and a modern Lycoming engine.

Along with the Fokker Dr.I the Fokker D.VIII was one of TAVAS' first flying reproduction aircraft. It has been fitted with an original 160 hp Gnome rotary engine to keep the look, the sound and performance truly authentic.

The RFC Nieuport 17 is a full size Airdome Accessories replica. This one is not a TAVAS aircraft but usually flies out of Emu Gully just east of Toowoomba.

So many photos to sort but I thought I would give you a taste of the aerial action at the TAVAS Great War Fly In.

The 'dog-fight' sequence involved a Bristol F2B escorted by an SE.5a attacked by the Fokker Dr.I. Here we have the 'combatants' in flight:

Thanks for the positive feedback and the rep gents. I have got so much more to post, but I am time poor at the moment with preparations for Anzac Day today, the commemoration tomorrow and Briscon this weekend. Here's a few photos of some really beautiful aircraft from between the wars.

This lovely old kite is a DH.60 Gipsy Moth designed and built in the 1920's. Such beautiful lines....

Default Video of the F.2B and Fokker D.VIII

A terrific account Carl. By good fortune we were in Brisbane over the weekend - and by even better fortune discovered mid-trip that TAVAS was flying. I was aware of TAVAS, but hadn't thought to include a visit during the trip.

I looked through my own photos, but couldn't see any gaps that Carl missed. The only contribution I can make is the video below. I apologise for the low quality - I was caught out and only had my phone. However, it does give an audio and visual appreciation of the aircraft in flight. The mock machine guns sounds were particularly effective!

    https://1drv.ms/v/s!AmwXAxDU6_O-lZ0SQYNC3mUUWvkDlw

I left just after the P-51 flight. Whilst it was quite a sight (and sound!), the photos didn't turn out too well from my vantage point in the car park!

Hi Ashley it's a shame I did not know you were up it would have been great to say hello.

Great video from Sunday - I went both days in the hope I would see the Fokker D.VII and was not disappointed. I have a lot more photos to go through yet (I took more than 200). I will upload all the dogfight videos to Youtube and post links. The sound of the 160hp Le Rhone rotary on the Fokker D.VIII is absolutely fantastic.
