    Default Attack Devizes 16 & 17 July

A heads up for Attack this year.
Details Ill post later but we have a table for the weekend, they specifically asked about a Zepp raid this year, so Tim if you are able can we do a Zepp game on one day ?
Generally we do WW1 at this show dont see any reason to change a good formula so check in your diaries and let me know any interest

Hi Chris, missed this thread somehow.

Zep raid, huh, ....................... O.k., I'll look into it. I have two Zeppelins now, but haven't ever tried to "run" one,
I have the magnetic tokens Neil made for me - now just need a masterclass in their usage!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

Possibly the only scenario harder to run than BoB, depending on the number of players!
I'll arrange for a couple of extra crates of gin for the mess.

    Lest we forget

Unfortunately not. Circumstance preclude me from being able to attend again this year.

Hi I should be able to make one of the days not sure which yet.
The date for Attack should be 15 & 16 July, they haven't updated their information from last year on the Attack webpage.

Ref the above show I have been asked by the organisers for a brief rundown of what we will be doing, I originally said the standard WW1, however with the release of the BoB set do we want to change it to WW2? Or split it to Sat WW2 Sun WW1.
They have also adked if we do WW1 if we could maybe see a Zepp in action.
This will mainly be up to Tim. If he can attend. Let me know what people want to do and Ill let the organisers know.

WW2 isn't my thing, but happy to help regardless.

Is any of the BoB stuff still available or has it all sold out?

I'm hoping to be there one day, probably Saturday

  15. #15

It's all still available in stock at "Entoyment" in Poole (despite my rummage last Saturday!).

They have all the BoB stuff, plus 5 different game mats, plus both WW1 Duel packs, plus the WW1 RAP; not to mention a large variety of planes (both WW1 and WW2).

I'm still looking into a Devizes day out - definitely not both days, maybe not either one unless I can call in a few favours.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

Son John and I will be there for both days. I'm a WW1 man myself (sorry, no zep in collection), but am interested in WW2 too - only tried it once though (BoB at Salute under the sure guidance of experienced players

    Good Morning all.

Attack is this coming weekend, we are located, as last year, in the canteen area, to the left as you come in the mail doors.

Try to be there around 0900, I expect to get there approx 0915 due to transport , this gives us an hour to set up and take a quick wander around.

Intention will be WW1 first, starting off with a general dogfight using Alb D3 v Strutters, I can supply the strutters then we can play as the fancy and punters dictate.

As we have been asked about the big bombers, at sime stage would like to put on a HP v german late war fighters and possibly a Staaken trying to evade SE5 , again I got two HP that I will bring along.

    See you chaps Saturday morning

A number of years ago I spent many a happy day in Devizes -- I stayed at the Bear Hotel and remember buying a great army surplus sweater on Market Day. I really enjoyed the formal tea at the Bear. I wish I could attend this event -- is it being held at the Barracks?
best wishes for a successful event,
    Bill

Attack is not held at the barracks unfortunately, but at Devizes School, which whilst perhaps not having the same feel as a former military establishment, still makes a great venue.

See http://www.ddwg.org.uk/attack-2017/index.html for all the details.

    Neil,
Thanks for the response. Now that I know about the event, if the fates allow, perhaps I can attend in the future -- I'd love to see what Devizes looks like now.
    warmest regards,
    Bill

I normally restrict my photography to the show and mainly our participation games, but if there was anything specific you want to see, I could probably make the effort to go take a picture. Of course, Google Streetview should have most things covered and be relatively up to date

    Neil,
What a generous and kind offer -- after I saw your post I careened to my computer and took a virtual tour -- The Bear looks unchanged since the nearly 30 years since I was there -- OK, I'm getting motivated to try to get there next July.
    best,

Just ran across some pictures on Facebook - that Simon (Maverick) is certainly one handsome devil - and he looks riveted with the game he's playing - such concentration!

Glad you all are having a wonderful time!

    All the best,

    Trying to fly two Hadleys

against nine 'Fritz' does tend to do that sort of thing to you!

and with added noise and emotion from players is an 'interesting challenge'!

Both Hadleys dropped their eggs, one finally fell to points total the turn it dropped the 'eggs' on target

The second Hadley dropped its eggs on target, but their being only one A damage card left in the pack
having collected 10 yes TEN 0's and only eleven points of damage collected the inevitable Boom card
made its appearance...no other card left to draw.....fixed??...NEVER, surely!

But at least the Hun will need a building project in that city!

Handsome...been called many things in my life, but NEVER that before....me thinks you go to far Matt.

Really good event, so thanks to everyone for making it a lot of fun. Lots of interest from the public, and it was good to see so many youngsters getting involved and playing so well.
Following pics are from the Saturday. I'm hoping Flying Helmut - Tim - will be posting some from the Sunday.

Saturday kicked off with a dog fight:-

Followed by a recon / photo mission. I think honours were fairly even in both missions except the entente failed to get their photos in mission two. Yours truly was responsible for that as the guy who had the camera wasn't aware of that, 'cos I hadn't made it clear enough. Result, he did the brave thing and tried, successfully, to attract the CP scouts to himself, thinking I had the camera. Whoops! Lesson learned!

Next up a dogfight involving the tripes of Black Flight and some Albatrii

The bombing raid needs little more added, since Maverick (Simon) has already reported on that very eloquently

Which only leaves a couple of pics from the final dog fight of the day in which the youngest member of the crew distinguished himself. I didn't take part in that one so I am not certain of the outcome, but I believe the said youngster was the only pilot who survived the encounter unscathed - well done that man!

A great day, with five successful missions flown. That kept the older members of the aircrew on their toes alright

The Sunday was also an excellent experience, with more youngsters leading the way. But that is a tale for another to tell - regretably I took no pics at all - too busy getting myself blown to pieces

    Cheers
    Mike

Think I will go back to sails. Enjoyed the weekend but in the first two games on Saturday my first five fires all came up with a gun jam and I received the boom card twice and double pilot wound once.
Sunday first game bet you cant guess what was pulled on my first fire agains the German aircraft ?
    Yup a jam
Closely followed by a boom card and my second aircraft 2 pilot wounds.

As for the bomber mission, the whole point was to give the punters/players something to shoot at, the bombing mission itself was well shall we say secondary. However for that scenario and numbers I will add another escort.
