I haven’t been flying much for quite a while, apart from teaching 4 lads the basics of WGF at our local library in November, so I thought it high time to contact Brambo (he lives across the road from me) and see if he was going to the local Games Club.
A few days later, I picked him up, and with Ruth (SWMBO) off we went.
Some time last year, I painted a couple of WOG P40s as 112 Squadron shark mouths, I had just acquired a Bf110 Christl, and I had two of the Vichy Dewoitine 520s, so with a bolt of sandy coloured cloth, the game was on.
Two P40s patrolling westerly met a pair of 520s patrolling east, just as the 110 hove into view searching for a reported British ground party hunting far behind enemy lines.
The P40s (me) separated slightly and each picked a target.
The Flight leader took on one of the Dewoitines,(Brambo) while the other swung out to try and flank the 110 (Ruth).
Oops, head on to the 110 and the 520
The rear gunner gave me the coup de grace.
A quick view of all the aircraft at this point
So there I am, one Kittyhawk left, and it’s smoking.
A few minutes later and I have a bead on the Dewoitine again
Pay back! Down in one
plus what I gave him on the first pass
The P40 packs quite a punch!
While I’ve been dancing with Trev, Ruth has successfully reccie’d the oasis, and spooked the British patrol into firing at her, confirming their identity
I manage to catch the 110 in the side this time, smoke!
Smoke or not, Ruth lines up for a bombing run
The bombs fall wide, only causing partial damage.
The patrol returns fire, then I swing in to attack the 110 as it turns for a second attempt.
No return fire? Seems I took out the rear gunner last time, and
Down she goes.
All the accumulated damage is showing, those ground troops were rotten shots.
Trev decides to strafe the oasis
And the target is toast
As he turns away, I manage to turn inside him and
Which, added to the damage he has already taken
Means victory for the RAF
Kittyhawk
