I read that the early Zeppelin raids were conducted against British ports during the daytime. Did the Germans ever send any escort planes on these raids? The Zeppelins would seem pretty exposed on those types of missions.

They didn't have the range for escorts Lance, the Zeps relied on altitude to keep out of the way and weren't much slower than some machines sent against them - that didn't always work of course - AA wasn't that plentiful in those days either. They only had about a dozen guns defending London in the beginning.
