An HS1-L from the USN's First Aeronautic Detachment, Naval Air Station Brest, on antisubmarine patrol, May 1918. Shapeways WSF model by Reduced Aircraft Factory. Italeri and Vallejo paint; decals from Mehusla and Bedlam Creations (while their decals are intended for Battletech miniatures, the line includes stripes, outlined numbers and alphabets which can be quite useful for other subjects).

Thanks, Dave. In addition to my Ares mats, I have and use several Game Matz playing surfaces. While a couple, like their desert mat, reflect light a bit too much when photographed, the ocean mat works very well for pictures.

United States Navy Curtis HS-1L flying boat stationed at L'Aber Vrach, France in June, 1918. Roundels are from Kevin's Miscellaneous Miniatures while letters/numbers are from Bedlam Creations. I know the rudder does not have the red/white/blue stripes but it will take someone with better eyes and hands than myself to do that. The model is from Shapeways.

While they only saw action from June-Nov 1918, the were in wide use by the US Navy, flying out of France. And they patrolled for U-boats on the Eastern seaboard of N. America, including one unsuccessful attack.
