I found that this was a training plane. Too bad as it would have surely put envy into any German pilot facing it!

That's what the decal guide said.

As British HQ didn't like individuality in fighting units, it's a wonder any planes looked like this one.

<- mutters something about "a maze of biplanes, all olive-drab", but you don't quite catch it...

Default Decals for 1/200 British and Canadian - mostly early war

A good part of January has been spent on decals for 1/200 scale British and Canadian planes. New to the store are decals for Hurricane Is, Defiants, Spitfire I/IIs, Hurricane IIDs, Mustang 1As, HP Hampdens, and AW Whitleys. The store is here: http://shop.miscmini.com/t/decals-1/200--9mm

I'd like to finish decals for Blenheim I and IVs, Beaufighters, and some No. 67 Buffaloes before the month is out.

Here are pictures of models finished in the liveries of No. 1 squadron RCAF, No. 145 squadron RAF, and No. 264 squadron.

The models are 1/200 scale, Armaments in Miniature.

Moving in on an island. The island is from Gale Force 9/Flames of War Battlefield in a box. I painted it, added sand, grass and a crude airstrip. Did that for another game but make a good backdrop when taking pictures.

Default Café Vallejo - that's what was on my workbench today

That's right, today I had Café Vallejo. I went for the traditional Vallejo Model Color Café, not that low-calorie, model-air stuff.

Tomorrow I will keep my café farther away from my brush-cleaning cup.

I guess it's good it was only a brush with paint rather than some tasty decals needing to be softened for application...

You are in good company with that move, Kevin!

Default prelude to the Battle of Britain: Invasion of Holland

In May 1940 the Germans invaded The Netherlands. A five day struggle followed, in which the Dutch Army Air Force also played a role.
Here's some of their fighters, the Fokker D.XXI as flown by 1e and 2e JaVa (1st and 2nd Fighter Squadron).

These three were flown by 1e JaVa.
Models by Shapeways (#214 & 215) and Geromy (# 234), bases by Litko, gimball joints by Aerodrome Accessories.

    Next to come: Fokker C.X, a light bomber/reconnaissance bi-plane.

    Stay tuned,
    cheers,

Beautiful work, Guus! The DXXI is such a neat looking airplane - I love the fixed wheel look. And your three-color paint scheme looks wonderful. Hope they are able to hold their own against early opposition!

    Matt
well, if the opposition consists of Ju.52's with a full load of Fallschirmjäger ...
No, but serious, in reality the ones that managed to get airborne shot down quite some bombers, Me110's and even Me 109's

Just to give you all a better idea, some statistics:
on May 10th the Dutch Army Airforce had 35 Fokker D.XXI available (although some were in maintenance ...)
7 of these never made it in the air (either in maintenance or destroyed on the ground during the first attack waves by the Luftwaffe)
the other 28 D.XXI's flew 102 sorties in 5 days ... 13 of these scored aerial victories ...
    the list of victories:
    8 x Messerschmitt Me.109
    4x Messerschmitt Me.110
    2x Junkers Ju.88
    1x Heinkel He.111
    1x Dornier Do.17
    2x Junkers Ju.52
    a total of 18 planes ...
not to bad ... hey hey what what ...

    cheers,
    Guus

btw could anybody make me plane-cards (two camo schemes, see pics) for these planes ?
    I'm using the K-deck, the D.XXI had 4 7,9mm MG's in the wings (so B - A like a Gladiator I would say), damage 14 like a Gladiator Mk I (15 ?, Gladiator Mk II). Ceiling 10000m, climbrate to 8000m 10 min 30 sec, topspeed 460 km/h, engine 760 bhp Bristol Mercury VIII

    Any takers ?
    cheers,
    Guus

If you had an image of plane from online, your chances go up. Google the plane and hit images. Copy a nice overhead view of the plane and share it.

What else have I done in January?
I finished my storage bins (from an idea I found in the Drome).
I created a Japanese & US fleet of ships - see some examples. I may have gone overboard as I did about 10 carriers and 15 other ships for each navy. They are all actual ships of DD, CL, CA, CV, CVL, BB, BC, tankers, supply ships, and some Liberty ships.

Oh, and I proxied a lot of cards for Star Wars X-wing onto card stock and am cutting them out.
Now that I have cleared some space, maybe I can play again!

Default Prelude to the Battle of Britain: Invasion of Holland # 2

Right chaps, here we are again ...
When the Germans invaded The Netherlands on the 10th of May 1940 the Dutch of course responded.
The Dutch Army Airforce not only had their fighters (amongst which the Fokker D.XXI, see above) but also some reconnaissance / light bomber planes ... Fokker C.X biplanes.
Of the 16 available only 11 were operational, mostly stationed at Bergen Airfield.

    Here's two of them:

All 11 flew operational sorties with only 2 of them lost to enemy fighters ...
Operations they flew were ground attack against German occupied airfields (Waalhaven near Rotterdam and Valkenburg just Nort of The Hague), against German troops attacking the Moerdijk bridge and the Rotterdam bridges and approaches and artillery positions east of the Grebbeberg (a major Dutch strongpoint / defense line were very heavy fighting took place) and at Wageningen.
After the Dutch surrendered two flew to France (where they later were abandoned). The rest of them were either destroyed by Dutch troops or fell into German hands.

    I hope you like them.
In the general section of ww2 i've asked for the correct manoeuvre cards to use, giving the specs of the Fokker C.X. I think an I card would be appropriate (Stuka, Val ...) but they are a bit to fast ... Anybody got a solution ?

    cheers,

Not sure, but this might need a management card, too? Four crew, with three gunners?

Anybody got a solution ?

    cheers,
    Guus
    Guus,
I can"t find a drawing of your plane, let alone a good one. I found something with a radial engine that looks close, but that drawing is pretty bad.

    Hi Mike,
    I have a top view drawing of a Dutch C.X ...
but it's a .gif file and will not upload here !?
    I'll try something else ..
    Cheers,
    Guus

edit: I hope this works ... no, it doesn't

    https://www.google.nl/imgres?imgurl=...act=mrc&uact=8

    edit 2:
if you google "fokker C.X" and go to pictures and scroll down a little you should find it, a black and white top, side and front view ...

    edit 3:
now what do you know ... all of sudden the link (see edit 1, above) does work ... so that is

The last entry for Jan. Here are 4 Shapeways Fairey Fulmars. I checked some photos and saw there were a few different camo schemes so I did mine like the Swordfish colors I posted before. One has no markings other than the rondels but three are B/P/D. The decals are Miscmini (Kevin)
