This is a quickie AAR of a solo game based on Carl's WGF EF03 - First and Last over Rozhishche (WGF historical scenario for 2 players)...
I used the same aircraft types, my D8 charts for the Alb, my own alt & manoeuvres, and shooting was peg to peg.
2Lt Owen Dewes is very happy with the squadrons latest acquisition - a shiny new Nieuport 11 with RFC decals and even happier when he comes across a lone Albatros C.III on a recon mission..
He is somewhat surprised as they turn toward each other and manage a pass without either getting a shot off - this is no dozy German pilot.
They circle back and make a head on pass - rounds are exchanged and some patter through the Nieuport's wings .:. but it seems the spandau jams before too much damage is done.
Owen rolls to split arse in behind the Albatros as rounds flick past him from the rear gunner - close but no cigar !
Another burst crackles past as he reverses in low behind the Hun
They circle warily and Owen moves in again - his rounds seem to have no effect and the rear gun of the German jams - an opening ?
Owens sideslips wide and catches the Hun as he crosses his nose - mashing the trigger - a flicker of flame but then his gun jams
As he whips round behind the Hun he can see the gunner working on his jammed Parabellum
Clearing his own jam he takes a hit from the Albatros
Owen's next burst hits with deadly accuracy as he rakes the cockpit and hits both occupants
Owen sideslips and rolls in for another burst - cockpit again !
The Albatros snaps right as the pilot slumps over his stick and falls from the sky
Albatros C.III - SD-FLM / ET / 0 kills - Pilot 2WIA; Obs 1 WIA
2Lt Owen Dewes RTB / 1 kill
Dewes was very lucky to get two wounding shots in so quickly but the fire was having quite an effect on the German machine and would have forced it to retire if the pilot had come round.
Things may have been much harder if I'd thought to play ammo & reloading rules for the Lewis gun - next time maybe.
A fun scenario - thanks Carl .
