Thread: Does Ares advertise this stuff?

Default Does Ares advertise this stuff?

Ares has a pretty doggone big package coming out in February -- the Battle of Britain Starter Set. I stumbled across it by mistake, and I'm pretty tuned in on WofG stuff. There seems to be no market message. Does anyone see these games advertised anywhere?

I appreciate this isn't a multi-million dollar business, but I'd expect to see a banner ad on BGG or some of the blog sites. They cost like $30 for a month.

John look at the header in orange on the top of this page. You will see Pre Order BoB minis.

I second John's expectations. BGG banner would be a good move.

Oh sure, but we've already drunk the kool aid. I'm curious about how they expect new players to find the product. That's the life blood for a product like this, that could sell for a hundred years. This is a Lionel Trains kind of product.

Unless you have or are a WGS player the additional planes are not going to interest you.
Entry level for WGF or WGS seems to be via Cons , meetings or word of mouth so I guess Ares reflect this in their marketing.
they are not on the same scale as AH etc so better to nurture the following they have IMHO

Advertising in places that aren't established hangouts for WoG crack addicts is whats needed. TMP and TWW would be other ideal places to do so.

Armchair General would be a solid choice too.

I don't want to tell them how to run their business. This just seems like a solid reboot for WGS. I appreciate putting word out before Christmas would be unstrategic, so I'll be interested to see if they do it afterwards.

We need to remember. One way to turn off potential players is to advertise and have nothing to sell. If there is at least a good availability of the core planes then yes advertising could bring a new group of players.

I will say that Andrea as always been very gracious when I have shared my uninvited opinions. I hope that I am never rude or presumptuous, but we are fond of the game and would hope that it succeeds.

John I see what you mean. I have checked a few other places and there is no mention of the BoB set. As others have stated if you are not familiar with the game how would you know about it.

Short term marketing strategies are largely defined by good timing. If Ares does not release a 75th Anniversary Battle of Midway set on or before June 4-7, 2017 they will miss the proverbial boat, or perhaps crash on the carrier in this case...

It would be great but unless they already have it in the works but have not told anyone I would rate a June 2017 Midway Starter Set release as 'highly unlikely'.

I know, but maybe they will have a surprise launch from their secret base, code named Shangri la!
