A sad day indeed as it triggered the war in the Pacific and all those that paid the ultimate price there.

This morning at 10:00 AM in Oakland City Hall and on local broadcast station KTOP the Commission on Aging will make an announcement honoring the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. One of our members, Mickey Ganitch is a Pearl Harbor survivor and is currently in Hawaii for the event. If anyone is interested you can look him up on the internet and find him telling stories about the day on YouTube. Mickey is 97 years old and continues to volunteer at the Veterans Memorial Building - Downtown Oakland Senior Center providing assistance to disabled veterans. As a public employee I may be paid by a government agency but it is people like Mickey that I truly work for.

To those who died on that tragic day and who fought to defeat the axis powers we salute you.

I was coming back to MD from NJ today and saw very few flags at Half Staff as required to honor those that died on this day in 1941. I wonder how many even know what happened on this date 75 years ago. Thanks to all here that actually do remember.
