    Default Cold Wars 2017

An early heads up for Cold Wars, March 16 - 19 ,2017.

I have just submitted three Wings games. Friday 4-7 will be a battle over Verdun, 8-10 will be Italians and Austrians over the Adriatic, Saturday 6-9 will be a WW2 US attack on Rabaul. (I might be running a couple of these at Origins too if accepted.)

Time to think about Cold Wars again...it's only two weeks away! I hope to see some Aerodrome members. As you can see above I am running 3 battles between Friday and Saturday, so if anyone is attending there should hopefully be a time where you can come and fly.

Your scenarios are bound to be spiffing, Peter! I look forward to seeing some pics if you're able to take some as you run them. Have a fun time!

    All the best,

Matt, I'll do my best to take some photos.

Bob, look forward to meeting you.

I must look at the PEL to see if there are any other Wings games going on.

Last shout out for Cold Wars. I'll be heading down Thursday morning, 7 1/2 hour ride if all goes well. Luckily the storm blew through Tuesday so all should be clear.

Have a safe trip and a good time.
I'd love to go, but even with being on vacation this week, budgetary constraints (and domestic bliss) said to stay home

Karl, at least you are near a good core of Wings pilots so you don't have to go long distance. You do have a serious Wings trip coming up in September If I recall.
I do like going to the cons running and playing games but when the drive is 7+ hours ....oh yeah, Origins is almost on the horizon too. 14+ hours.

Back from Cold Wars a few hours ago. Had a great time. Met some old friends, made some new friends and had a great game. Teaticket (Peter) ran 3 games but I only played in the Raid on Rubal game. Great game and good time. Many KUDOS to Peter for the way he ran the game and effort he put into it. I am sure he will have the AAR photos to post. To show the type of people you meet:
3 of us did ACW reenacting and one was at the same reenactment as me. Another was in the same Army unit (ASA) as I was and also did ACW. Peter met a friend of mine and they were in a few reenactments together (although on different sides).
Those of you going to ORIGINS make sure that you get into one of Peters games. You will have a good time.

Way cool, thanks! Somewhere I have a few the elves converted . . . .

Very interesting; looks like they were hitting land targets. kind of wondering what target would be more efficient to hit with a 75mm shot rather than a cluster of bombs or para-frags.

You should have been at the game we played. First question one player had was about para bombs. In your wheelhouse now Peter.

Maybe you could call this a precursor of the AC130. Looks like a training video. No FLAK and nothing on the ground. Target might be ships of just hitting the airstrip/runway.

Cold Wars over and done. Got to put a face to a name in Bob. Great to meet you and you handled that P-38 like an ace. Funny that the 3 of us did ACW reenacting and were at the same events, small world.

Photos of the 2 games will get posted as soon as I can get the photos together. One gamer is going to email me the ones he took.

Oh boy, now I have to get at least one more B-25 to modify for a 75!

That's a good reason to consider getting a set of Merit models 1/200" scale B-25's, you can do 4!

Peter it was so funny that a friend, who sends me these things all the time, happened to send that to me last night. The video fell into the game we played.

    Timing is everything!

We'll have to try a similar scenario vs Japanese shipping when I get the 75s. I looked at the Merrit and I think they are a smidge larger than ARES. I may get some AIM for this project.

Just sent David and order for some B-24's. He has decals for the 320th BS so have to look into that. I also asked Kevin if he could set for LADY BE GOOD/WITCHCRAFT and DIAMOND LIL.

First game set up was Verdun. Sadly no one showed up for it! I have never had this happen before. I was quite surprised to say the least. Many people stopping for a look but I could not get anyone interested enough to fly. Luckily my friend who I have co-sponsored games for a decade or more was here for the weekend and he and I played a 2 on 2.
He flew a Fokker D.II and Rumpler C.I while I fler the newly painted Jean Navarre Neiuport 11 and a Morane Saulnier P.

Rught off the bat I scored a fire on his Rumpler.

He then put smoke to my Bebe.

On the first shot at my Parasol, it took 2 crew wounds, one to the pilot and one to knock out the gunner. The gunner never got a shot off. Then to rub it in the next shot set it on fire.
    It quickly went down.

Now I was down to my wounded N11 against two Hun planes. I had to maneuver carefully so not to be fighting both at the same time.

I flew to try to seperate the two so I could go after the wounded 2 seater first.

    AAR #2 Across the Adriatic.

Here we have an Italian strike force attempting to sink a couple of Austrian destroyers. The Austrians throw uo a collection of any planes in the area.
7 players joined in on this one, 3 Italian and 4 Austrian.

The Austrians fly too far past the bomber.

Unfortunately for the bomber rudder troubles prevent his first target from receiving a direct hit.

    AAR #3
    Raid on Rabaul.
9 players joined in for this one so I was quite busy and unfortunately didn't get to take many photos. A bit easier taking photos with WGF as there is more time between plotting, less prodding the pilots to get along with it! Anyway, a good group and it went well. Bobp was flying a P-38 helping to fight off a swarm of Zeros as the B-25s made their strafing runs.

Spread around Rabaul I placed 4 AA Gun positions and 4 AA MG positions. The guns I ran with the solo rules at the end of the book. They were very unlucky and only hit twice! The AA MGs were firing their 'A' chits like crazy. 2 of each were knocked out.

I have a 4' x 4' Vista print mat of Rabaul that I put over my 4' x 6' sea/island mat. You can see the difference in the water where they overlap. Worked out nice as it lets you know when you are getting close.

I hope to be getting some more photos of this one as one of the Japanese pilots took some and is going to email them to me. I'll add them in when I get them.

As the lead B-25 burns the Japs come after the next Mitchell.

Looking forward to seeing you at Origins.

Lance, I'll try to be at Fall In. I'll post a couple of months before as I usually do before a con I am running games. If I can't make Fall In I will definitely be at Cold Wars 2018.

Will we be seeing the Great Ape at Origins? It will take some imagination to make it a game.

I haven't heard from Ken but I submitted the Rabaul game and a couple others for Origins. Fingers crossed he can fit them in.

Great set of AARs, Peter. I find it very difficult to remember what my pictures are showing. For me, I'd need a secretary/photographer for AARs

Maybe a King Kong vs. the dragon(s)

He should have made an announcement here; I'll prod him about it.
Not to leak any ship movements, but I would count on your games being needed.

Just saw this and had a great time with the Rabaul mission. I stopped by to see the other games but thought I had another game with old friends but that didn't happen. I really enjoyed the way Peter ran his game, despite other distractions. Hope to see you at FALL IN and count on me to fly a plane.

Ok, today I started making plans for Fall In with Mike. He flew one of the P-38s with you. We'll be there with at least 3 Wings games.
