Thread: FE-2d models and cards

    Default FE-2d models and cards

    Greetings

Reading Vol IV of the British official history War in the Air I came across a potential future scenario on 7 June 1917 in which 4 Albatros scouts shot down a 6 Sqn RFC RE.8 being escorted by 3 Sopwith two seaters with 'a formation' of FE-2d (20 Sqn) joining the fray. In the ensuing fight an FE was shot down, as was an Albatros, and a Sopwith was badly damaged. (Two days earlier 7 FE's of 20 Squadron had been attacked above the Ypres-Menin road by 15 Albatri, including elements of Jasta 28.)

As I am only just getting back into WoW/WoG this would not be done soon, but I wondered about a source for the FE-2d both as a model and in terms of manoeuvre decks. It looks like Shapeways does a pair of FE-2d and I think from the unofficial stats that an FE-2d uses a G deck but I have no idea to get one (or what they most closely resemble)?

    Regards

    Edward

Shapeways is your best source for the FE2d Edward, pretty sure some of the chaps have some form of plane card for one - G deck is a stand alone deck that doesn't resemble anything exactly from the Nexus Watch Your Back box set, or, the Immelmann Booster, both of which are pretty rare now, though I'm sure someone out there will have a spare - you can print up what you need from there and sleeve them.

Who knows, someone might even have put together a G deck for their own use

I'm sure the E deck is a close fit(?) to the G deck might need someone to clarify.

I'm not certain I could ever get behind the idea of any of the F. E. series doing an Immelmann. But as has been pointed out, this is all unofficial anyway, so hey, if you think it should, go for it.

If you cannot find a G deck, there is always the MATES card available from the Files section of this website at http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/dow...o=file&id=2366

The wingover was a standard maneuver for them from 1917. Not only did they do it, they did it a lot. Which led to some real brown trouser moments for the observers.

Yes, I was astonished too, but the pilot accounts are unequivocal. Couldn't turn sharply, but could do an upwards bunt followed by a 180 yaw in zero gee due to rudder being in the airflow of the rear engine, apparently.
