The second step was to paint the larger details like the tracks before assembly, this makes it a lot easier because once assembled you cant get into all the small spaces. I like a bit of weight to my models so all about an ounce of lead to the inner structure, you can see the weights in the previous photo in the Hull. I then put the model together and touch up any green paint needed.
I wash the tank in a diluted gray to knock down the brightness of the green and give it a more weathered appearance. I then painted the detail like tools and such and gave the tank a few well placed paint chips. I follow this step up with an airbrush spray of light dust/dirt on the bottom of the vehicle.

I spray the model in Testors Clear Flat Lacquer through the airbrush. I don't recommend the spray cans, they leave spots. Then we bring on the final step, the Mud! This is a blend of different oil based colors and some fine Ground foam. I use an old brush to dab this on where mud may accumulate. It dries with a nice un-even texture.

Looks good and also an easy build. Hope to play BA at Cold Wars next year. But I do know we will be playing a ACW game because I have seen the photos of the figures my friend has painted.
Tanks! What an inspiring idea, Jim! I think the time has come to start a new paintjob in this field of tabletop gaming... Cromwells...mmm... Cromwells...my precious...
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Just had another Shapeways delivery.. Gotha G.IV from Kampfflieger, some Gotha GL.VIIs for the Ukraine and Germany, some AEG G.IIs for MvR's first mount, and a twin tail, and a few others.
So I better increase my production rate from 2 a week to 3.
This week - an Italian floatplane to fight the Austrians from last week. An Ansaldo Baby. Then an escort for the Caproni bombers, a Nieuport 10 in a 3 colour brown cammo. Photos are rare, the profile I've seen is also ambiguous, but probably 2 colour. So when in doubt, go for the aesthetically pleasing.
Then over to the East, and a Soviet Farman F30 and an Imperial MS type P.
On my bench a pile of different types of models which I was planing to finish this year it won't happen they will still be there next year
Ambitious plan, Zoe .

This is it!

Zoe
They look really good. How do you store them all?

Great work on the Sherman Firefly, Jim. I did succumb and get the 'Flames of War' TANKS skirmish game (they're in 15mm), so at least I can start painting some tanks soon-ish - I did get a Firefly to paint...
Nice work on your Shapeways birds, Zoe! You seem to continue apace - keep up the inspirational work
All the best,
Matt
I finished up my MvR bust this morning...I think! Still may have one or two mini-touch-ups to do as I look at him tomorrow...but overall, I'm pleased with the way he turned out. I much prefer the dark leather flying jacket to the box art version I posted last month. And I cut down and modified the Geschwaderstock to make it all wood rather than the drum major's mace the box art had him holding.
The first picture is of him mounted on the base I typically use for the busts I paint.
This second view is a close-up - the detail on figure really is rather nice!
Here's a right-side shot to show the way the coat drapes over the Geschwaderstock held under his right arm - very cool sculpting on the figure
I really enjoyed painting this fellow. Now on to some more airplanes!
As always, thanks for looking
All the best,
Matt

Fantastic job on MVR Matt! The stand is gorgeous too.
Really good work Matt.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Astounding finish on the bust, Matt!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
I finished of an Italeri Stone Bridge kit today. The bridge I bought was packaged for Warlord Games for 28mm but I have also seen it sold as HO scale kit for two lane traffic. It was a very simple kit, 6 pieces, but all the Bolt Action kits I have ran across are easy like this. They are designed to be simple game pieces not intricate kits. I am amazed on how fast you can build them. I used to spend a whole week on a Tamiya tank kit and I can easily knock off one of these 28mm models in a day. I will base this, eventually, but this white crap started falling from the sky and I had to shovel it away, and IT CAME BACK!! Now it is too cold and miserable to be cutting out masonite for basing in the Garage, aaarrrrgh!
A very nice bridge, Jim. Were the pieces prepainted or you did the paintjob?

Well done, Jim, really well done paintjob.

Magnificent Matt.

Looking forward to seeing that, Zoe! Your goal of 2 per week is still inspiring - I was just downstairs in the workshop dusting off some planes to finish painting!
All the best,
Matt
Wow, Zoe! You've got some esoteric plane action going on here! I particularly like the Lohner. The Ukranian Farman is pretty cool, too...
Looks like the ZFF (Zoe-Flugzeug-Fabrik) is hitting its stride!
All the best,
Matt
Another masterpieces, Zoe
Would it be possible to get a file with Ukrainian markings you use?

Started to expand on my special forces figures for Force on Force - don't know why, I hardy ever use them but it was a fun project.
These chaps are Aussies in a generic uniform
These are some Aussie SAS in their uniform, or as near as my skills will let me do it.
Here's a shot of them in the field
I hope to go through my tray and pick out a dozen or so of my favourites in generic style to detail in the future.
Figures are 20mm, Liberation miniatures; some head swaps have gone on.
"He is wise who watches"
Fair few to paint there Trev.
I look forward to seeing the completed diorama.

I've got more coming, I must prevent a lead mountain from reoccurring
Looks like you got your hands on some PICO buildings. Very nice. Can't wait to see more photos of your game board.
Wow, Steve! Love the warband! And it looks like the "Adlertag" team is rather plentiful... I look forward to seeing them painted.
All the best,
Matt
Dave---your special forces are looking good!
Steve---Very nice Vikings indeed!
I wish I had the patience to paint figures again like you guys. I love to paint planes, buildings, vehicles etc, but just can't find pleasure in figs anymore?
OK, last NON-WGF post for me for a while. I finished off my Type 97 Chi-Ha Japanese Tank in 28mm. I now feel the urge to do some Wings re-paints.
@Steve: what a job! Vikings look gorgeous.
BoB project: Is it going to be the Adlertag?
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
@Jim: you are the TANK COMMANDER, truly!
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
@Dave: beautiful figurines What kind of game are they painted for?
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Very impressive Richard. That takes me back a bit.
What scale are they?
Rob.

Holy Band of Zulu's Batman!!!!
Nice Impi there Richard, Rourkes or Isandlwana, both or just in general?
See you on the Dark Side......
