Thread: Battle of Britain starts now!

  1. #1

Default Battle of Britain starts now!

The long awaited Battle of Britain Starter Set and Squadron Packs are finally up for pre-order on the Aerodrome store! Order between now and December 31st and receive some nice bonus items...

    Battle of Britain Starter Set

Pre-order during the promotional period and receive a set of White on Blue ACE Prop Rulers free! Be sure to read the directions in the Starter Set description on how to get your free rulers.

    Squadron Packs

Unlike previous WGS Series, this Series does not have three different miniatures of each aircraft type. Instead, it has a single miniature for each aircraft type and a decal sheet that will allow you to customize the miniature as one of several historical pilots/planes. The Spitfire, Hurricane and Stuka decal sheets have a total of 5 historical markings. The Bf 109 decal sheet has a total of 3 historical markings. With all of the Squadron Packs, you can mix and match the left over decal markings to create a large verity of non-historical planes if you so choose.

    Commander's Packs

I know many of you are going to want to play with all of the historical options out there, so I'm also offering what I am calling the Commander's Pack. These are a bundle of Squadron Packs allowing you to make all of the historical versions of each aircraft type - 5 Spitfires, Hurricanes, Stukas, and 3 Bf 109s.

With so many planes on the table from the same Squadron, it could become hard to tell which plane is which on the gaming table. No worries there if you order any of the Commander's Pack during the promotional period and I'm including some special edition ACE Flight Stands to help with visual recognition of each miniature. These new special edition ACE Flight Stands will only be available with the Commander's Pack and they include not only the game stats for each aircraft, but also the individual markings for each plane! The Spitfire, Hurricane, and Stuka Commander's Pack will come with 5 of these flight stands and the Bf 109 will come with 3... matching the historical versions of each miniature.

Here is a photo of the prototype flight stands for two of the Spitefires and Bf 109s.

If you place your pre-order during my Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sale (25-28 Nov) you will also save a little extra on the Squadron and Commander's Packs!

I am sure it is, because:
    1. you support our Drome's Chief business,
    2. you get really gooood prices at AA,
    3. you get bonus goodies,
    4. you get the planes faster then those waiting for the retailers.
I know the customs may be an issue in UK (surprisingly there is no such problem in the rest of our UE), but this will also raise the prices at your FLGS.

That rather depends on whether Border Force decide to slap duty on it, and if they do then there is the additional Ł8 Royal Fail charge for doing F-all. Or, as happened once, Royal Fail 'lose' the package altogether. The question is whether the additional goodies thrown in out-weigh the chance of Customs charges.

Keith, are you also throwing in a small tube of filler for the wing roots and the nose of that Spit?

I'm hoping these are photos of the test shots and not the production run

Right, just pre-ordered a starter pack and 4 squadron packs (2x Hurricanes, 2x Stukas).
    @ Keith:
Like Pete says there is no option to add the prop-rulers. I hope they will be included with the delivery of the order anyway ...

    Great deal, Keith.

    Order placed.

Only a Starter Set - nobody knows when this will hit the shelves in German shops. Money runs out of my fingers like every end of the year...

I have a bad feeling about this!
Hope the Sopwith Tripe and 109K failures are behind us!
But when I see the tail of the Spitfire my hands start to shiver...

But you have remained me Steve to start working on ARES 109K corrections ASAP.

This is about the preorder of the BoB supply we all waited for, gentlemen.

Especially the decals in the single airplane packs will grant us a lot of pleasure for our gaming tables.

All those who waited for Hurries and BoB Stukas should be double happy with the squadron packs and Keith's individalized bases.

Nice detail: The Bf.109s in the starter set fit to the Bf.109 in the single pack. JAGDGESCHWADER 2 RICHTHOFEN!

    As for the gap issues...

I recall that Ares receives the minis not assembled and someone there at HQ puts them together. So its quite possible that DWP image is just a bad assembly job. The DWO image looks just fine to me.

    Hi Ben,

My price on the Starter Set is $50, which comes out to roughly 40Ł. The Squadron Packs work out to roughly 7.80Ł. I don't think you will find prices over there nearly as good. Plus the bonus items bring the cost down even more.

Shipping time is typically 8-12 days and the customs fees (when they get applied) is a lot less coming from me due to how I value them on the forms (production costs, not retail costs). Out of the hundreds and hundreds of packages I've sent to the UK, Steve's is the only one to go missing. And if I recall correctly, it went missing at his local post office not in transit.

Bugger - just when I had sold off/exchanged my WW2 planes - this lot comes out...... alas I will have to wait for a UK stockist, having had to shell out Ł2.5k to fix my daughter's kitten who decided to jump out the window of her flat, and thats on top of Ł11k of law school fees for her...am on emergency rations when it comes to anything 'fun' at the moment. I am sure I can borrow a Hurricane and take to the sky at some show in the near future

I think it's time to start actually using them ...

Paying for cat wasn't on expenses radar - but it's my daughter's first kitten since getting her flat - not many options really.. she now has better insurance, lol

Does anyone know why Ares chose to put three planes in the German Me109 Commander's pack when there are five planes in each of the others?

I was wondering that. Would have thought 4 109s and 3 Spits/Hurris would have been more appropriate, given the formations flown at this time.

Just placed my order and looking forward to getting these planes. Noticed that the playing surface is 98cm X 68cm. 50 years ago I learned MM and CM but I am more used to inches.

The surface area just happens to be the same size as an Ares WoG playmat. Coincidence or conspiracy... I guess we will never know.
