Thread: Series 10

  1. #1

    Default Series 10

Series 9 WGF hasn't been out too long and Series 3 repaints are in the works. Is it too early to start talking about Series 10 of WGF?

Wings of War/Wings of Glory have covered most of the common aircraft of WWI. In the beginning I would have been thrilled with what was produced through Series 4. The Camel, Spad XIII, SE 5, Fokker DVII, and Albatros DV to name a few. And some two-seaters also. But there were more to come. I do not know of another line of models that have covered as much. But there are still some left. What do you think Series 10 will bring?

Heres some of what I would like to see:

    Sopwith Pup - Long overdue.

FE2b - Obselete early on as a day fighter, but found work throughout the war in other roles.

Salmson 2 - One more two-seater in French and American colors.

Sopwith Dolphin - One with 2 Vickers and on the wing 2 Lewis guns? What firepower.

I didn't mention any Central power aircraft, but I can't think of any other than some obscure ones.

    Pfalz D.XII vs Dolphin
    Fokker D.II vs Pup
    LFG C.V vs Salmson 2
    Aviatik C.II vs FE2b

How about including a German seaplane? Hansa-Brandenberg produced several the K.D.W., the W12, W19 or W29.

Too early ? That discussion started way before the series 9 release !
As we're going over it again, I'd like to see a Sopwith Dolphin, a Pfalz D.XII, Roland D.VIb, DFW C.V for a late war release; BE2c, Sopwith Pup, FE2b, Fokker D.III for an early war release.

Nice choice of models there Dave.

Actually I like every ones picks. Cannot write a bad thing about them.
There are some things we do not have.
    1. An Italian two-seater.
    2. The #1 produced war bird of A-H the Brandenburg C.I (we are missing GB #1 also, the Avro 504 but, mostly built as a trainer)
    3. A French two-seater fighter Spad XI/XVI, I do realize it was a failure but, still.

I do like the Pfalz D.XII vs Dolphin matchup, wishing for a Pup and a Fe2 iconic aircraft.
How could the Baron have 80v without the BE2? It took a brave pilot to fly one of those in 1917! Still a very important aircraft.

I hope we get news soon.

Pub, yes, but my choice would be:

    Ansaldo Balilla
    Sopwith Dolphin,
    Oeffag D.III,
    Junkers D.1

At this point, I'd rather see some of the early releases reprinted than a production of a new series. Still plenty of newcomers who don't have access to the out-of-print stuff.

    Yes and No, Sam.
The older series planes may be still obtained elswhere (I know they are so to say iconic and may be pricey), but every game lives only with fresh blood. New planes would boost the interest in it, definitely.

Zoe's and Dave's list are spot on. Might take a while to get them all from ARES if we ever do.

Sorry but I for one won't wait for ARES when there are other options available. Not saying I won't support ARES as I do buy whatever they produce.

    That is the point, Paul.
But you will still be living in EU, am I right?

Don't get me wrong Pete. I already have most of the seaplanes mentioned, three Sopwith Pups, Sopwith Baby and an Ansaldo.
It's still nice to get that glow of expectation.

I know. Nothing can replace the thrill of the nearing of new toys. I'm sure you are way ahead of most of us with a vast inventory of desirable planes in your hangar.

Yep after 25 yrs in France and all my children and grandchildren in Europe no reason to. Plus France, and Brittany in particular is a great place to live and work , except for the lack of LFGS and fellow pilots. Thank the Lord for the Drome and Skype.

No seriously it was meant as an ironic reflection on how long it takes Ares to announce a new series and the time it takes to getting it on the shelves. much the same time frame as it will take the UK to finally leave the EU.

I THIRD that! Especially the early war pairings!! But I also have to agree with Sam, I'd hate to compromise the potential of reprints just to bring out a new series ...

It is a compromise we all have to take on board.
Those of us who do a lot of shows, wish for new aircraft to break the monotony of sameness. I well remember when Balloons first came out, and then there is the need to be able to point the keen new players to a stand that actually has starter sets and also the Iconic aircraft for sale.
The two aspects of this juggling act never seem to coincide. In fact new planes on the table usually means that we are even further from the good old stalwarts that new players crave.

There are several early French aircraft, which could be included e.g. a Voisin, Caudron or Morane-Saulnier Parasol.

Thinking on the usual Ares release timetable I thought you meant they'd both be late and can't come soon enough..!

    Thank you for this suggestion.
A Voisin 3 or 5 is an iconic plane to have.
First plane to shoot down another in a machine gun combat on October 1914.
And it was used during 1915-1916 for bombing and recon missions, and until 1918 with the 8 and 10 versions (bigger than 3 and 5 versions).

    Yes!:

BE2c, Vickers FB5 Gunbus, Morane Saulnier L 'Parasol', Bristol Scout.

The 'L' Parasol was also built (or captured) by the Germans as the Pfalz. The Turks used three and it was built in Russia in numbers. It is also the type that Warneford won his VC with when he destroyed Zeppelin LZ37.

Finally the L was also the actual type that Roland Garros was flying when he first used deflector plates to fire his gun through the propellor. For some reason a lot of people assume he was flying an 'N', which he was not.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morane-Saulnier_L

All four I listed were important but the 'L' was probably the most important, and made the most impact, at time of introduction. It literally paved the way for other aircraft.
