Default Best storage for the planes

Hi All- just a bit of advice - I am sure like most others here - I started with a couple of planes just for a game to play over the winter a couple of months ago . It seems I have in a short time finished up with a storage problem. - I live in England so aware postage would be very expensive from overseas for cases so was looking closer to home - what is the best storage solution . - I was looking at the KR multicase - are there similar none branded identical cases or is it a case of "you get what you pay for"? .

I use the KR system, from way back, and find it excellent. In fact I have just purchased the 4 case wheeled supercase that could be mistaken for a cabin trunk. There is an even bigger 6 case version. There are other systems which I have no experience of so can not comment.

I was advised (and it did seem sensible) to put the cards in the proper sized card sleeves for protection that you can purchase - now they don't fit back in the WoG boxes - do you know if the cards (with protection sleeves) fit in the case or do you have to take a scalpel to the foam?

Sorry can't help you there. I only use the sleeves for the WW2 damage cards and have an independant storage system for them.

If I have to modify the foams for any reason I find that a really sharp pair of scissors is much better than a scalpel. You have a lot more control and the end result is a lot neater.

I have a multitude of KR boxes, and the six-box metal "wheelie-coffin", as well as some "Figures in Comfort" boxes.

Both systems serve well as transport cases - personally I do prefer the KR ones.

A sleeved card deck WILL fit in the KR card well with a bit of physical persuasion! There is no need to cut the foam.
Upon removal of the deck, the soft foam then re-expands back to its original form, so can continue to accept non-sleeved cards.

The "Figures in Comfort" trays have bigger card wells, and these easily accept sleeved cards, but since they are oversized (especially in width) there is a lot of room for the cards to move about.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

Use extensively figures in comfort. Use the press out bits to fill realy useful box insert trays for my WW2 stuff. I'll bring some to Leeds so you can have a look. I am sure Reg will have the KR trays so you can peruse.

I've done exactly the same thing Reg.

David, I used to use Figures in Comfort but went over to KR cases 4 years ago and have never looked back. The only problem is that you never seem to have enough foam trays...........

David, if you are a bit handy with woodworking you will enjoy a post I did earlier (link below). I will be adding dimensions to this post in the near future so others can enjoy an easy build. Jim

I use the trays from the Aerodrome store here: Hanger Trays. All but a very few planes fit perfectly and those too still fit, just snug. They are great for keeping both pilot, skill and maneuver cards with each plane. But, on the down side, because of that ease and convenience they are not very space conscience (especially for the giants). Some people prefer keep their maneuver decks separate, if so then this isn't for you.

But I like grabbing the plane and everything that goes with it. Takes up a little room but is easy as I keep the decks with the plane. I found a couple of water tight containers at Office Depot and they fit well. Plus I added a plano for the tokens.

I first started using the Figures in comfort trays, these are good andworked, although I found that the bottom foam was made of a harder and therefore sturdier material. This worked but on some aircraft this bent the propellor blades. Plus for the sleeved cards i found the cut slots tended to curl the corners.
I now use only the KR system for both Wings and Sails models.
The foam is very pliable and has that bit more give which allows some aircraft to fit even though not quite designed for them.
Also I found the sleeved cards did not curl.
I would highly recommend using KR foam and cases.

I use KR boxes to store my Shapeways and other "unofficial" models.

All my "officials" reside in their original boxes, which i find perfectly adequate (and fiscally satisfying )

This issue has been discussed before and we showed our concepts here:

My (hard) way is described in post #45 with pics. I assure you, my planes are in perfect condition, they do not suffer (too much) and the organizers may harbor dozens of planes.

i use kr multicase and am quite happy with it. if you use ultrapro, or swan sleeves theyll have to be trimmed a bit fit. mayday sleeves are the correct length and dont need to be trimmed.
