A bit of a delay after the battles for the AAR but here goes.

AAR #1: While waiting for other players to arrive, we had our usual opening dogfight scenario. Mike and I flew Sopwith Camels (I had the Belgian one) while John and Paul flew Fokker Dr Is and Mike (Capt Willard) had a Pfalz D III. Here Mike and I appear to be surrounded by the enemy.



With a little double teaming, John's Dr. I goes down from battle damage.



Now it is two on two and the Allied flyers do a little maneuvering



Here Capt Willard draws the BOOM card and is Pfalz becomes kindling and bits of canvas.



With odds of two against one and a badly damaged aircraft, Paul is able to exit the map with his Dr I before we are able to catch him.

AAR #2: I had thought up a ground attack mission using the Nieuports from Series 9. The Central powers had five trench cards, two anti-aircraft machine cards and one anti-aircraft cannon card. Our mission was to destroy five of the eight targets. John, Mike (Capt Willard) and I flew Nieuport 11s on the attack. Mike 2 flew an Albatros D II and Paul had a Halberstadt D II on aerial defense. When Anthony arrived, he controlled the ground defense units. The Nieuport with rockets was assumed to have a machine gun, and that the rockets were leader streamers.



The Germans are coming and going near one of the Nieuports while another one approaches the one end of the trench line.



It turns out that the 'special damage' effects from trench fire can be really disastrous especially when hit by several trenches at once. My flaming Nieuport is destroyed.



John had planned a strafing run behind the trenches, but received a 'right rudder' special damage card, so he was forced to do a slow left turn to get in position. That's him in the far corner of the map. Meanwhile Mike is doing some attacking from the rear while German aircraft converge.



Mike gets the dreaded BOOM card.



John takes a direct hit from the anti-aircraft cannon and it is a doozy. In the end all Allied aircraft were destroyed and only two of the trenches were completely eliminated. A victory for the Central Powers.

AAR #3: Mike (Capt Willard) lead a German recon mission using a Gotha G III as the recon plane and Mike 2 provided defense with an Albatros D. V. Opposing forces were John and Paul with Sopwith Camels, Anthony with a Spad VII and I had a Hanriot HD 1. We decided two A firing and two B firing planes would be a 'balanced' offense against the two German airplanes.

Notice one of the Sopwiths is on fire, while the Gotha draws the BOOM card. We gave the Gotha half of its total strength in damage points.



Here the second Sopwith Camel succumbs to serious damage hits.



Now the burning Sopwith goes down. So only the B firing airplanes survive to continue the attack against the Gotha.



We had three target cards for the Gotha to perform the recon mission against. Mike choose the one deepest in enemy territory. So far his plan seems to be working since two defenders are out of the game.



At this point, Mike's second observer was killed. With no living observers he was unable to take a photograph so the Germans could not complete their mission.



Perhaps next month I'll be able to use the other airplanes I purchased from Series 9.
