Take a few moments today to remember Kiffin Yates Rockwell, of the Lafayette Escadrille on the 100th anniversary of his death. Kiffin spent time at both VMI and Washington & Lee universities but graduated from neither. Instead, he answered the call to France in the early days of WWI by joining the French Foreign Legion. After slugging it out in the trenches he became one of the founding members of L'Escadrille de Lafayette, which took it's name from the famous Frenchman who helped the United States during the War for Independence. Kiffin was one of the first members to be killed, which occurred during the battle of Verdun.
