Last night Baxter, Windy Jack and I got together for our regular aerial punchup.
We decided on a scenario that comprised a Felixstowe that was tasked with a photo-recon mission over a small German convoy (2 light cruisers escorting 2 merchantmen carrying vital war materials). The convoy was defended by 2 Fokker D.VIIs and each of the cruisers was allocated an AA gun.
The Felixstowe was provided by Baxter, the shipping was from Topside Minis and the 2 Fokkers came from my Nexus/Ares collection.
We pick up the action as the Fokkers close on the flying boat which is lining up for it's photo run:
The first exchange of fire sees Udet taking hits and starting to trail smoke, while Goering looks likely to begin collecting substantial amounts of lead:
A short time later the Felixstowe dodges the AA but, in the process, gets in the way of the D.VII.
The rear gunners of the Felixstowe make the most of their opportunities and set the D.VII on fire! Either that or Goering has dropped a cigarette in the cockpit!
The Felixstowe has had it's KODAK-moment and so starts the long haul back home:
Udet has finally got back into the fight and inflicts damage to the big flying boat:
Meanwhile Goering has finally succumbed to the accumulated damage of successive collisions with the Felixstowe plus a healthy belting from it's gunners:
However, not to be outdone, the AA gunners on the cruiser escorts have got their eye in and neatly bracket the flying boat:
And it succumbs to a direct hit, drawing a ten and a zero:
Somewhere in the fracas the Felixstowe had pulled the Boom card and we counted this as half the total damage points, so maybe it was living on borrowed time anyway, but the final AA salvo certainly finished it off.
Doug (Windy Jack) and I were using the standard card decks while Gary (Baxter) gave sash-dash's alternative card deck a try:
