Default The Day of Polish Armed Forces

    Salute all Pilots!
Today Aug. 15th is the Day of Polish Armed Forces, established to commemorate the Battle of Warsaw that took place on that very day in 1920 between Polish Army and the Soviet Red Army advancing westwards to conquer Europe according to Lenin's dream of the time.
Thanks to brilliant counter offensive maneouver of Marshall Piłsudski aided by French General Weygand, the Reds were badly beaten and repelled from the capital city of Poland and our forces emerged victorious.
A British historian Lord Edgar Vincent D’Abernon called it the 18th decisive battle in history of the world.

A great military parade is now being held in Warsaw with lots of tanks, aircraft, helicopters and several contingents from our allies: USA, Canada, Germany, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine.

The bar is open tonight; expect some extra vodka shots as welcome drinks

    Andy.

Yes, let us all recognize the importance of Poland... especially the role they played in keeping Soviet imperialism held back from the West as long as it was.

    *raises drink*

THANK YOU, POLAND! I just hope the West doesn't throw you under the bus this time...

Poland has long been a bastion of Christianity and civilisation, sadly, it has also been fought over by greedy neighbours.
I, too salute the brave Poles!

A day late seeing this dear friend, but not too late to salute the Polish people for their fight against tyranny in many guises.
I hope that we British never forget the debt owed to them in the help we received in our darkest hour during the Second World War.

Pity the allies sold them out in WWII though. I always thought that technically Britain should have declared war on Russia when they invaded Eastern Poland and they did on Germany when they invaded Western Poland. At the end they handed Poland to the Russians despite all their heroic deeds.

Unfortunately, Poland's location is the textbook-definition of "middle of a s*** sandwich" -- the Germans and Russians can walk there; everyone else has to go through the Germans or Russians to get there....

Best defense Poland could pursue: a nuclear program. "Hey Vlad, ONE of your Commie jackboots crosses our border and one of your cities glows in the dark. Which one you feel like losing today?"

Yeah yeah, I know, Putin's more Fascist or neo-Tsarist than Commie Ideologue, but you get the point...

I always sigh a bit when people remake the claim about the Allies 'selling out the Poles'. Churchill had no authority to demand a free and independent Poland, which he wanted. It was occupied by the Soviet army, and - as Stephen Ambrose correctly stated in 'The World at War' Stalin could have reneged on the agreement with the Allies about the post war division of Europe by holding on to Thuringia and the other parts of 'West' Germany they occupied, they didnt. Stalin did break the agreement supposedly to allow the Poles to have free democratic elections, but what were the Allies going to do about it? Declare war on the Soviet Union?
I am just glad the Eastern European states got their freedom after the Soviet collapse.
