Thread: Thornbury Shocker!

  1. #1

    Default Thornbury Shocker!

Scandal reared its ugly head at the Thornbury game yesterday as banned substances were found in the equipment of mr Boney10. Photographs were quickly snapped...

Whats that we can see tucked into Chris' box of "Wings" essentials?

    Dice!!! Say it ain't so!!!

Well, the Russian paralympic shocker and now dice being discovered at a "Wings" game, what can we say on the state of humanity? Strange days indeed....

Ok, I'll admit it, I have a d6 in my Wings of Glory gear, but only for meta gaming stuff I swear!!!

If it's anything like my club the dice are for throwing at other players....

    I have one question - what's a chop ship?

A chip shop for dyslexic German pilots to bomb?

Ah, 3 target cards, only one of which is the Chip Shop the others are, Chop Ship and Ship Chop. Hence when you bomb them turn them over and if you've hit the correct one, ie Chip Shop you've hit the target.

Hmm, think I have a pair of dice and also a coin in my essentials (but hardly ever used honest...) box.
Better hide all the micro dice I use when playing with limited fuel and ammo.

I'd best take care. I keep several sets of D8s and D20s for altitude tracking.

  9. #9

    Default Acw = 8

    We use a D8 to decide Novice 1-2, Pilot 3-7 and Ace. A D4 for starting altitude and fuel 60 + D4 x 10. and a d6. Ammo D6 =6. Also D8 for collisions.
Also dice to decide Nationality and which side of the table you appear. If DICE are banned I can't play the Game.
Second Edit. Blast! (So much for Fire and Fury). I see AC together and it just has to end with W.
    I of course mean ACE = 8.
Third Edit. I will get this correct if it kills me.
    For D6 =6, please read D6 + 6
Do you ever get that, 'I wish I hadn't started this' feeling? I have it now!

Dice are used when playing with some of the solo rules systems to select movement cards for the 'robot planes'.

Hey, the dice are there for tossing at the other pilots when you run out of ammo.

The HORROR!! I specifically enjoy Wings because of the lack of Dice. Let's just say I HATE DICE. I am one of the lucky few who consistently roll the lowest possible numbers every time. This curse has been with me since Childhood. Imagine my shock when I go to the local Game Store to play Wings and they pull out....DICE! AAARRRGHHHH! We run a Campaign and roll for Altitude at the beginning (D4) which side you will be fighting for (D6) type of plane (D10) and survival in the event of a crash (2D6) There is a D20 thrown in there somewhere too, but I forget what for. On the bright side, there is another guy we game with who will roll lower than me most of the time, poor chap!

The beauty of that is that my low scores go mostly to the enemy, and only a couple of my own aircraft at most.

Yes Jim! I am another low scorer like yourself, only mine has an edge to it. I roll excellent dice which brings my troops into action very quickly, this allows me to loose more quickly because as soon as I contact the enemy all my sixes turn into ones and twos for the rest of the game.
I welcomed Wings with open arms, and then I discovered the Fire card.

Rob--I think I have drawn the fire and explosion card more times than are mathematically possible!

I wish I could say it was a plant, but no.
    Its a fair cop guv.
The reason for said implements was during the campaign I was running I wanted a random area for planes to set up rather than always opposite each other, the dice was used for this purpose. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it

Got two D6 I use for the Over the Trenches "Crash & Wounds" and "Escape from Enemy Territory" rolls.
Occasionally use a die for sorting random events as well.

But in "real" dice games I have that same terrible luck gene and have passed it on to my son ....

Me too! Plus you need a D6 to keep score for Lewis Drum usage.

Maybe the dice are to hand to pilots when they draw a "boom" - so they can dice with death? (oh dear, first pun from me in a while - and it's terrible )

NO DICE!!!! though i will admit dice can be useful in game. mostly to prop stuff on or elevate things (if intoxicated i might, grudgingly admit that theyre useful for determining crew/engine hits)
