Found myself with few dollars left on an Amazon gift card and found a Sopwith Snipe cheap enough to buy. This will bring me up to 4 WW1 fighters. I don't know how the Snipe matches up to the Albatros. I think the Albatros came later in the war and don't know anything about the Snipe.

Will this be a good matchup?

The Snipe far outclasses any of the Albatros fighters. The Fokker D VII is a much better match. The Snipe came about three months before the war ended and was intended to replace the Camel.

Ok. Thank You. I know now what to buy next. My favorite plane when I was a kid was the SE5a but I haven't found any yet.

I found a Wings of War SE5a on eBay but it was price beyond what I would pay for it.

And I still consider myself a rookie as I'm still at zero battles, even though I've been a member here for about a month(?).

I have too many projects right now to go crazy on this, but since my wife gave me some planes for my birthday my old interest of aviation has been rekindled. But I still have my old Willys CJ2A to finish and a CJ5 that needs an engine transplant. Not to mention my wife had knee replacement surgery a week ago. And... she (meaning me) runs an in-home daycare... So this passion has to wait again.

That's a full plate. Dan. Just put them somewhere you can gaze upon them occasionally.

    Hi Dan
    When you get some time:

I started painting my first four planes only about a 1/2 hour a day I start to shake and have to stop, but it is fun.

Looks like a fun winter project.

I'm not happy unless I have something to work on. My jeep is waiting on me. I was waiting on parts, but the parts are here now but my wife needs attention until she us a little more mobile.

The jeep project started 2 years ago and should be mobile this summer/fall. I saved it from the crusher. It won't be 100% when I'm done, but it will be fun. Lots of rust equals lot of patches, but will have about 90% of the original steel. 12 volt system, v6 and saginaw steering are new to the jeep.

    That's exactly how I started.
I guess the logic was that if I didn't like it it was not my money ...

300+ planes later I guess it was a good use of seed money.

First off. Welcome to the Forum Dan on behalf of the pilots who fly in NSW down in Australia.

Sadly SE5a models are like dinosaur eggs.
There was one on Ebay recently going for about $70 US.
The model will be reprinted probably some time next year.
Until then you can get an unpainted one via the Shapeways 3D printing mob if you feel like painting it up & adding decals.

    Welcome from Poland, Dan.
You have made a good start, after all. Giving the Albatros an ace ability or two would equal the chances, consider this.

I found myself cleaning off the top of my desk this afternoon. It tends to collect odds and ends. No room at the room to display anything except dust at the moment. My wife has been after me for quite a while to organize it. Maybe she knew something that I didn't.
I can't until I start my jeep and drive it the door. If it wasn't for the jeep I be clearing out a spot and build a r/c plane of WW1 vintage. I bought the movie 'The Blue Max' since I got my WoG planes. I first saw that when I was 10 or 11 with my best friend on a rainy saturday afternoon. I loved the flying scenes in that.

I see I have a lot of catching up to do. But I think I could around 10 to 12...
    I can always dream can't I...

I am a patient person. I can wait a year or two. But will jump right on it when I see they are back.

Ouch! I do say at least the packaging protects our little birds. I've had a couple not quite as bad as yours but the planes were ok.

I'm just guessing, but from the looks of the package, it looks to have gotten stuck next the conveyor belt or bumped off and landed next to something rubbed on it. The box is quite worn/wrinkled but the little Snipe still quite nice.

Welcome to the Aerodrome, Dan, from here near Norwich in the United Kingdom.

I do not know whether you have read this thread http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...Aircraft-lt-lt but it will give you some idea of which aircraft to match together and how to handle them. There is a great deal of information to help you on this site, particularly in the Files section.
