16 killed, that's a dreadful incident. My thoughts go to their families.

Another balloon-vs.-powerline conflict won by the powerline.

Saw this on the news today. Very sad as there is a big event in Readington, New Jersey today with many balloons.

My question is, how do you fit 16 people in one of those baskets? I didn't know you could fit more than 3 or 4 in one.

On UK News, there is a doubt the power lines were involved?

ut was a larger one designed for giving commercial balloon rides.

Unfortunately, the balloon itself doesn't need to be close to the lines -- most balloons have lines dangling down from them; if one of those makes a connection....

I think the news said the balloon would normally operate much higher than the lines, and it was likely it had problems higher up. I am sure the air investigators will find out what really happened anyway?!

Follow-up news reports are still posing a whole lot of unanswered questions about pilot reliability and previous history of this pilot's and this company's safety record. I'm not saying anything either way. But I am awaiting what the NTSB has to say.
