I am looking forward to seeing this documentary. The Somme still resonates with British and Commonwealth nations 100 years later. The Australian War Memorial just held a commemorative service for the Battle of Fromelles where over 5,500 Australians became casualties with almost 2,000 recorded as killed in action or died of wounds. This is believed to be the greatest loss by a single division in 24 hours during the Great War.

It is not the same with the Germans and French, for their countries it is Verdun that epitomises the bloody sacrifice of the First World War.

Watched it and thought it was very good. Certainly went into areas not normally gone into. German intelligence reports were very revealing.

Ditto - sitting on the HDD along with several hours of other "to watch" programmes (if you can define 30 plus hours as "several")

Watched the first part and found it very interesting, was pleased to see the Pals units mentioned in the attack on Serre, even though a failure it cost a lot.
Looking forward to the next episodes
