Just getting into WoG. Anticipate that it will be a costly mistake.

    Welcome to the Drome Jeff!

No such thing as a mistake getting into Wings of Glory but it certainly can become costly!

Welcome to the Drome Jeff. When you look at the enjoyment you get from your Wings acquisitions and gaming, cost is not a factor!

Welcome Jeff from the W. KY 'drome.
The only mistake you will find you have made is by not getting into Wings of Glory sooner. Once you see how much fun it can be you will be saying why did I not do this sooner.

    Thanks All!

Been spending many hours realizing just how much catching up I have to do!!

Any recommendations/suggestions for WoG "accessories" to add to the base game? Came across the "Advanced Cockpit"...wondering if I should add it to my birthday list.

Definitely go for Advanced Cockpit or 2. Got mine recently and it makes you feel slightly more like a pilot haha. Also go for some ACE scout damage markers to give the fighters a visually appealing damage aspect and bomber damage markers if you plan on getting some heavies. Can't go wrong!

    Welcome from Poland, Jeff.
Costly? Yes, but if you are good at painting, then outsourcing minis from AIM manufacturer plus bases from AA and some basic cards form files section here would help you to save your money.

I'm sure you'll find the game and the Forum as enjoyable as I do, Jeff! There is a ton of fun to be had with these little planes and all of the great folks on this site...

I'd suggest getting one of the Aerodrome Accessories damage deck caddies, too, in addition to the cockpit and counters mentioned above - it does a great job of keeping your damage cards organized and close to hand.

    All the best,
    Matt

Welcome to the 'Drome, Jeff, from Middlesex in the U.K.

As mentioned a few times above, getting into this game is NOT a mistake!

The more planes and accessories you buy, the harder it is to remember whether it is costly or not!

Welcome Jeff! I am new too and am enjoying the possibilities. I started simple with the original Nexus version of WoW - now getting into the minis... they're gorgeous and it's such a deceptively simple game to teach to others.

Welcome to the 'drome. Costly? Maybe, if you have to get everything that's has ever been made for this game, sure. However, if you take a reasonable approach and pick up out of print models when they become available then it won't be too rough. Also, since Ares has taken over publishing they have come out with 2 or 3 new releases (WoG 1) per year. So in order to stay current with new releases it comes down to about $150 - $200 every 4 months. I used to spend at least that much per month when I was playing Mage Knight.

    Welcome Jeff from NJ!

I've been "flying" for a little over a year but am only a recent member of the drome. You'll never regret buying into this game system.

As far as accessories are concerned, I highly (no pun intended) recommend the Gimbal Mounts with a pack of extra altitude stands. They really add a new dimension to the game. The extra stands will provide for a set of mounts (I cut mine in half and glue the gimbals and rings to their respective halves) as well as keep you supplied for any that may become lost. Further, I find that for most games, the stands provide a better visual representation of higher altitudes.

Also, I find the Solo Play Template well worth the expense. If you haven't already, a day will come when you may want to play when nobody's immediately available and there are a LOT of solo tables at this site which will provide for some exciting "virtual" opponents. This template is very effective. In fact, I'm using mine right now!

Beyond these items, there are a lot of goodies to choose from, but you'll most likely want to focus on having enough PLANES of a given time frame for you and your friends to play with.

    Good luck!

Welcome! What a coincidence, I just picked up the Famous Aces pack and the Rules and Accessories pack a couple days ago! Waiting on the two duel packs in the mail now. I just moved to the bay area of CA a couple weeks ago from the east coast. You don't happen to reside around there? I've got all these planes coming...now I just need to find people to fly with!

I strongly agree with buying the Gimbal mounts. It changes the whole perspective of the game and is visually pleasing. That's the fancy way of saying it's super Awesome bro!
