Last time I entered England, my Canadian passport didn't get me any brownie points from the customs agent I met. I was just another face in the line. Perhaps I was too egocentric thinking being from a colony might get me some cred. Oh, well.

Good luck on negotiating free movement within Europe?

Democracy. Oh yes. The best form of the state ever found. I support that.
But referendum is the other medium.
Two guys drinking beer have a greater voting power than a University professor.

But a better solution has not be found.

I do not mean drunkards have decided.
What I want to say is that sometimes a man of the state should take over and decide no matter the majority thinks. Mr. C . decided to have his hands clean - and let the majority decide.
I am pretty sure nor PM Churchill neither PM Thatcher would have acted this way.
But this is my opinion. If it breaks the rules of the Forum, please punish me.

In a perfect world, where people would put their positions, opinions and facts truthfully, a referendum is a perfect medium.
But when politics, populists and demagogues lie to get away with what they want it works less than well.
But that's the price you have to pay if you prefer a democracy and the will of the people rather than the will of one man or a small group of men.
Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't.

We'll see in a few months how it will work.

Well, according to many of my chums on FB at the moment the right to vote should have been removed from the old and the working classes as they were clearly not capable of making a rational decision. Some people's idea of "democracy" seems to be that the result is fine as long as it goes the way they want, but if not then start to line up the excuses why it wasn't fair and why certain groups should be disenfranchised "because its too important".

Right now you would think the world has ended. It hasn't. I'm hoping the blatant hypocricy and bigotry (ironic, since that s what they are decrying) that i rampant jut now will have given way to calmer thought by Monday. After all, by then everyone will have had a few cups of tea and that is good for calming the soul.

I'm also finding it rather amusing the number of chums who complain about "racism" because the other side wanted more stringent border control, and then say they are thinking of emigrating to Australia. Oh, the irony. They must be enjoying that on Nauru.

The sky hasn't fallen. The world hasn't ended.

David, I always for the respect for the democratic decision, even, and it happened a lot in Portugal, when it went away from what I thought it was correct. I was there to say I told you so.
In no way I have the temptation of changing the democratic rules just because I don't agree with the final result. Not even in games I have that temptation.

But that said, I don't feel the need to respect silence when it comes to saying what a stupid, stupid mistake.
Although I can see many reasons for this finale it doesn't mean that it isn't the worst decision taken.

But hey! It might get cheaper to buy miniatures in the UK.

    Right on Dave.
I can still get my G&T. Just so long as democracy does not go back to the Greek model too much, and the other sides voters invite me to put Hemlock in it.

Its friends like you Andrzej that make votes like this pointless - we are all Europeans (just look at the map) after all, just wish there were more like you and less like certain self obsessed politicians - the world would be a much happier place.

Having just had an Italian meal, a glass of Spanish wine, some French cheese and a Belgian beer I have only one thing left to say 'Je Suis European !!' now and always...

It's important that so many British voted at all.

So I respect and accepted it.

Maybe I'm not satisfied with the 50% rule, but this election was announced a long time ago.

I hope this thight result will not cause you internal problems.

    By the way:

There is no option in Germany to vote about a German leave of the EU.

You need to chage the constitution before and that needs 66% of the parlament and 66% of the parlament of states.

So the obstacles are very high. Beside this I never think that there is a majority in Germany for a leave.

You definitely hold the wrong end of the stick, David.

Would you follow the majority voting to lower the tax to 1%?

You either live in a democracy or you don't. Who decides when the little people can be trusted and when they can't?

It is an interesting quandary. There was a time citizens had a degree of confidence in their governments, however I believe the current lack of trust in our mainstream political leaders is creating the conditions where more radical agendas are attracting increased support. The internet is providing a platform for people who would be considered political fringe-dwellers to be heard by a wider cross section of the community. This generates a 'protest vote' mentality where citizens will vote for or against a policy/party for fairly banal reasons. And the groups that push these protest agendas can be confident that although they are quite capable of upsetting the apple-cart of the 'establishment' they are never actually likely to be in positions of true power - all care no responsibility.

The problem with Brexit is that whilst in general elections if the public realises they have made a mistake installing a government they can vote them out next time around. Separation from the EU now decided is binding. I wonder how many of the 52% of voters who supported the leave campaign will develop 'buyer's remorse' in the next couple of years....?

Just for fun - this thread has a potential to won't be nice - I like that Keith is such providential and wise that he let created a special EU Minor Con Medal and even a special one just for UK
    As I said, just joking.

Back to thread. It is a right of every nation (according to law) to decide what to do next so we must respect UK's choice. What puzzle me are Scotland, North Ireland and Gibraltar. English nation (not British) seems be close to losing them...

Did they vote to change places with Newcastle After all they voted to stay in the Premier Division, whilst Sunderland voted to leave. What a great bunch of guys, I take back everything negative I've said about SAFC.
